My son is 6 and just started fishing. He's been able to land a few small rainbows in the local pond. Now he wants something bigger. We live in westlock.Any ideas where we can go for something a little bigger? We dont have a boat ......any help would be greatly appreciated...

How far are you willing to travel? You could go to Long Island Lake, about half an hour north of Westlock. There's small pike and perch in there. There's a stretch of shoreline around the boat launch I'm sure you could catch some pike from. Horseshoe Lake is also in that area and it too has small pike as well as brook trout. The Pembina River runs not too far away but i don't know how the fishing is in that stretch.

Cross Lake has a dock and they catch a few off of that.

Goose Lake might be a good spot for you... West of Fort Assiniboine.

Across the road from there is a small lake by a provincial campground with a little dock from which you can fish for trout. It's called Schuman Lake. Here's a map.
