Default Wind

She's already hit 148 km/ph at the plant this morning good day to stay off the road if you're pulling a trailer in the southwest corner, tumble weeds, gravel blowin into the windshield, I predict 160+ for today.

A couple times today I’ve thought my house was gonna come off it’s foundation. Luckily the wind knocked down all of my weaker trees over the last couple years. The remaining ones should be fine.

Alert: December 13, 2018 10:43 am
Bulletin No. 2

The MD of Willow Creek is asking the public to avoid travel at this time due to the high winds. Gust in excess of 120 kilometers per hour are being recorded throughout Southwest Alberta.

There have been several accidents in south west Alberta involving semi-trucks, and vehicles hauling utility and holiday trailers, resulting in injury and significant property loss.

Municipal fire departments, AHS emergency services and RCMP are being taxed as they respond to multiple incidents.
Please avoid travel until the high winds have subsided

I went past the wind warning sign on the west side of Lundbreck at 7:15 am and the sign was reading 133 at that time. It got windier as the sun rose too.

Pincher Creek Echo
8 hrs ·
BREAKING: Several RCMP detachments in the area, including Crowsnest Pass and Fort Macleod, are advising against travel for large, light vehicles on Hwy.2 and Hwy.22 due to heavy wind conditions. This includes RVs or empty tractor trailers. RCMP have already responded to several numerous vehicles that have blown over.

Winds are currently at 130 km/hr and are expected to remain at similar levels into tomorrow.

When we lived in Pincher Creek, on the south west edge of town, I used to really enjoy when the wind would blow so hard that the vacuum on the vent stack would make the water in the toilet go up and down two inches...yep, I really miss that. And the rocks blowing across the road.

I remember driving out to Beaver Mines one day in February, chinook had blown in hard overnight...I had to keep the pedal on the old truck mashed to go downhill into the wind, watching rocks blow up the road...and all the melted snow water could hardly flow down the ditches, the wind was literally damming it....insanity.

Rural Ft. Macleod, and today we have lost 4 sections of wind fence the uprights snapped at the ground, our hot tub surround (8"x8" posts) destroyed, and as of this evening, the roof is peeling off the SW corner of our metal barn. And the forecast is for another 12 hours of 120km+ winds.

It’s a real breezy day here today. They closed the coop lumber yard due to the wind. It’s almost dangerous to be walking around.

And I believe today was every bit close to 160 Kmp gusts. Pretty sure the highest gusts I have been in here were 157 and today at times were very close to the same.

Thankfully no damage yet that I know of, will check more tomorrow. Gusting to 100 now and feels like a breeze compared to what it can do!

Try being on top of one of the mountains around here when we get these wind storms. You know it’s time to get the hell out of Dodge when you’re getting pelted with flying stones and rocks are moving around you

I think it was 2006 and I was living in sooke bc. The wind in the Juan de fuca straits hit 220 kph. Sounded like a freight train in the house. 80' for tree's were breaking about 20' from the top and some places on the outskirts of town were with out power for a week. I don't care to ever experience that again.
