Default Rem 700 Magazine Follower

I'm trying to track down a Long Action Magazine follower for a Rem 700 in .257 Weatherby.
Bought the rifle used and someone has installed a follower for .300 Win mag size. I pulled the one out of my .280 Rem and swapped, sure enough it is the right size for .257 Wby

Tried Western Gun Parts and some local Gunsmiths, but with no luck. Online searches have come up empty as well. Seems parts in general are scarce.

Anybody know of a place I may have overlooked? Or better yet does anyone have a surplus one they would be willing to sell me?

Thanks for any info in advance.

Something is off here. The parent case for the 257 is the 375 H&H, same as the 300 Win mag or 300 Weatherby mag. The follower for a 280 is not going to be wide enough in the belt area to load three rounds properly. That said, Numrich and Brownelles both had followers when I was looking for one a couple of weeks ago.

These guys make new followers. RPS is one of their dealers as is Bighorn

Thanks for the sources.

I would have thought a Magnum size follower would be correct, as you have said. However after some research, i found specs for followers that state that the 257 Weatherby uses the same follower as the 30-06, 270, 280, etc.

I know what you mean though, the math doesn't check out. 300 Win Mag, 300 RUM, and 7mm Mag should all use the same as the 257 Wby Mag. Being as the case diameters are almost the same at .511 and .513. While 30-06 case diameter sits at .470.

So maybe i have another issue? Problem is that I cannot load cartridges into the magazine, they keep popping back out making my rifle a single shot for the time being.

Was this 257 by any chance built on a 270, 3006 frame and had the bolt head opened up. If it was, your issue is the guide rails and the smaller follower is a jerry rig fix.

It is a factory Rem 700 barrel and action. Bedded in a Bell and Carlson stock with an aftermarket Timney. I double checked with the follower from my .280, and while it holds the cartridges no problem they do not feed very reliably. So maybe follower isn't the issue.

I have a friend who is dropping off his 7mm for me to compare, maybe that will shed some light on this issue.

When I say it is a factory 700 action and barrel are you saying the gun came originally as a 257 Bee. The reason I asked if it was originally a 270 or 06 is the feed rails on those are very different than on a 7 rem or 300 or 338 wm. The 7 rem follower is the same as the 300 am one. If the feed rails were not properly shaped the gun will never load and feed properly no matter what follower u try. The follower isn't the problem.

From my experience a Remington 700 long action are identical from standard long to standard mag difference is mag well and bolt and follower
There is a different action for a Run cartridge and a DBM action due to different mag well so the feed ramp is wider . Easier way is go kwick klip or HS magazine

Yes it came originally from Remington as a 257 Weatherby.

You're right the follower wasn't the problem. It appears the magazine box wasn't properly aligned causing the spring and follower to sit slightly twisted. Hard to believe something so minor could cause that issue, just needed more trained eyes to have a look.
