Whopper Wednesday
So out today to enjoy a sit on the ice, great company and got my biggest rainbow a 21 inch beauty then right away another 18 inch one.
Bite was odd today but I do know of one lucky angler that got a 28 inch and a 24 inch rainbow. Big males with hooked noses.
So o also got a lot of eggs and was wondering if anyone has fried them up? Seen people do it on tv etc but never did it myself. Is it worth a go and if so any special way to fry them etc?

Ohhh can’t say yet or ever.
The fella I fish with is well kinda a nice guy generally speaking, my type of company.
I feed him venison pepperoni to calm beast.

Nice fish. I definitely have the urge to get out soon. You could fry the trout eggs or make some caviar.

The heck with eating them, I'd be using those eggs for bait. Rainbows can't resist them any time of year! Nice bows! Congrats!

That did cross my mind but gotta try them first and if it’s not our thing then I will keep the eggs for bait going forward.
We use to many moons ago use a gob of eggs wrapped in a piece of woman’s nylons with a treble in the middle and float that below a bobber....perhaps there is a more modern way but it sure worked

You can buy fancy colored square patches of women's nylon's and stretchy thread, but otherwise it's still the same.

Sooooo I prepared the eggs accordingly....separated the eggs from the membrane and placed in the fridge in a bowl....fried them up with butter at mid heat.....made a huge egg omelette and placed that on top of the rice then added the fish eggs....well the fish eggs tasted like cod liver oil/beef liver pate...it had a hung up taste right on the puke button in my throat and the across the table look from the wife was well priceless....needless to say we scrapped off the fish eggs and salvaged a meal
So from here on in the fish eggs are used as bait.

Hahaha! Good choice on the bait and you don't need to wrap them and make egg sacks from them. I cut them in chunks about the size of a quarter and put them on a single hook a foot or so below a small split shot and set it on or barely off bottom under a Jawjacker. Works like a charm. When I grew up in southern Ontario fishing Lake Ontario tributaries and canals we put a big chunk, two plus inches and tossed it out in the current with a slip sinker or under a float and fish gobbled it up. In the state you removed them we referred to it as skein and fish love it. It lays down an amazing scent trail....

No eggs out of yesterday’s catch and keep fish.
When I do get some they will be tested as bait.
