Default Big Cutts Bitting

So this lake is known to hold big brook trout and some harder to catch cutthroat trout that also get large. I went for the b rookies but they were all sitting on shore trying to spawn and could care less about a hook. I got some underwater video of them. Then started trolling around with a Thomas cyclone and bam big cutt. Switch to a Thomas Colorado spoon and hook up on a monster. Got a third but only pics of the two. The one I kept was hooked in gills and bled out. So she came to dinner.

And a normal size trout for perspective.

Yeah that's it... Or I was just interested to know if it came from AB since I believe a Cutthroat like that would be very rare from an AB lake...

Nice fish Brandon, that is a neat little lake when you can catch a trophy cutthroat as bycatch lol.

Those are the stomach contents shrimp and a few damsels. Apparently there are so many shrimp in this lake the bookies grow around 5 to 7 pounds in four to five years then die from heart disease.

Sorry guys I wish it was alberta.... This is Kirman lake in the Eastern Sierras of California. 3 mile hike in which is not too bad. I've be wanting to go for years and finally did. Thought you guys would like the beasts I'll post the underwater video and fishing video once made.

Pyramid lake is number one on my bucket list since the news that the Pyramid lake strain cutthroat has been resurrected from the brink of extinction! Their story of their survival is amazing. I have been following developments of the Pyramid lake strain for the last three years, and they were observed making redds for the first time in nearly 80 years last year and were reportedly up to 25 ibs. I hope to make it down there in the next few years. Those cutthroat are going to start shattering world records in Pyramid lake soon. There are credible historic accounts of cutthroats up to 60 pounds and rumors of fish up to 80.

You got it right Levy it is like a resurrection of a dinosaur found in a pure strain stocked years ago in a small stream. The tiny stream fish continued to carry the genetics and despite resistance to restocking the lake with these stream micro fish those people are now all taking it back. True giants!

Thumbs up

Nice vid, Doc!
That's one hella bright rod'n'reel combo ya got there.
Is that a Bass Pro Shops Microlite Glass?
I just bought one of those rods to replace the Fenwick Willow Action that was stolen from me this summer.
I do love me a super bendy rod!

Yes I believe it is the Bass Pro Shops Microlite Glass... they are super cheap down here I can't resit buying them. I think they're like 25 bucks for the combo. Super bendy!... This is the long one 7 foot some, the 6 footer is in canada. I like the shorter one a little better since it is better for casting and controlling a light lures. This long one has so much whip makes it difficult to detect bites when you are jerking a bait or lure along. Good for still fishing or trolling though.

These are Stills from the Video.
