The big question is what are you planning to use the coal for?

Careful with the wood stove idea, and work it up slowly and observe what's happening. Coal gets significantly hotter and can heat the wrong type of stove up to the point it begins to melt. It can also produce way more carbon monoxide.

With a good heavy stove that can accommodate a rack, good piping, and some common sense, you are probably ok though.

We picked a bag of coal for our wood burner in our cabin.
Right in the ditch by the Wab strip mine.

Use a grill... make sure the coal stays on the grill.... iron plate-sheet

Useful on the -30 nights when everyone’s too chicken to restoke the fire.
