Default 25 GIBBS- who has one

Recently a buddy of mine built a 25 Gibbs. Seems like a very efficient accurate cartridge. We were getting velocities similar to my 257 wby with 15 grains less powder.

I had one. It had a 26" gain twist Smith barrel.Identical velocity to the Weatherby. If anybody needs data on the Gibbs line, I have a copy of Gibbs Rifle Cartridges

I have one on a 1970's 700 Rem CDL action with a 24" SS Douglass barrel. Great cartridge.

From what I can see if you want 257wby performance with a .473 bolt face and no belt it is pretty close.

25-06AI will get close to the Weatherby as well. Mine shoots the 115 Berger at 3350 fps with no pressure signs using H1000. In a Short action I would go with a fast twist barrel in 25SST (Sherman Short Tactical). Guys are driving the 131 Blackjack to around 33-3500 fps. The 25SST would be my top pick if I was building a 25 cal right now. The Gibbs is also similar the the Sherman design. The Sherman has a longer neck. I built a 6.5 Sherman and they sure do work. So I am sure the 25 Gibbs is a good performer as well.

I don’t have a 25 Gibbs. But I do have a 25-06 AI. Love it. Also have a 338, 30, and 270 Gibbs. All shoot very well with good speeds
