Thumbs up Great Game Warden Book

Hello... I just wanted to let you know about a great read that just arrived recently about a retired Alberta Fish and Wildlife Officer, Jim Mitchell. The book is full of true stories about his long career and cases throughout Alberta. The book was called Alberta Game Warden - Behind the Badge of 172. I got mine on Amazon.

I see he went to LCC. To me that means he was well educated.

Knew Jim when he was in Red Deer, and I was a seasonal Ranger at Aspen Beach. Also worked a bit on a search with him in Kananaskis in June 1986.

Great guy and great Fish and Wildlife Officer. As Huntinstuff, he went to LCC so he was well educated. I had the opportunity to attend LCC in the spring of 1986 - great school with great instructors.

Half way through the book - definitely a valuable addition to anyone's outdoor library

I knew Jim when he was District Officer in Sundre. Great guy and a very good Officer. I think he moved to a posting in Lethbridge where he retired. I saw him at a friends Funeral a few years ago and had a good chat. I didn't know he had written a book. Thanks for posting that.

I usually just google the books name and where to buy it and Amazon usually comes up.

Will be looking for this book to read, thanks for the tip

Here is a couple more. I worked with Randy a few times; a great guy. His books are from the front lines, with some humour along the way

And Keith Rande. I worked with Keith for a while and he loved telling stories.

Love these kind of books. Just ordered myself a copy.

I used to have all of Robert J. Adams books, and his adventures on the Stump Farm.

Looking forward to reading this over the holidays.

Good old JD. I really enjoyed all my classes with him. Top notch Game Warden stories, back when they were Game Wardens and not Revenuers looking for quick rip tickets.

Stay back and watch under heavy lenses and let greater yellow legs deal with it.

Excuse me while I go puke.

Disregard. Checked the book and it is him. Know the guy, and he was super! I was there for awhile, and we helped each other out at times.

Also will be buying his book. Pretty sure he will have the story of the elk hunter that shot a cougar getting ready to pounce him from behind, and a few giant 5X5 elk stories poached at the Yaha Tinda...

Chuck Shipley has written a couple of good ones as well. Murray Bates ? Worse than watching paint dry.

Adams is better than Shipley, in my opinion.

Default Born to the Wild

Recently read this memoir that my father in law suggested. Authored by Rob Kaye former Jasper Park Warden. Interesting insight into a life experienced from a saddle and the political chaos that never seems to end in the management of our natural resources.

My copy arrived last Friday. Took about 4 hours to read, a great page turner. If Jim writes more books like this I’ll be reading them as well.

You won’t be disappointed with this book.

This thread got me thinking of Bob Adams. Helped him build some houses when he was in Hinton, and would go on ride alongs with him, Read most of his books which was different knowing a lot of the people and places.

Liked Bob Adams books especially when in Hinton, He had to borrow few round bar tables from hotel so he could have a desk. F & W always had lots of money$$ to look after wildlife in Alberta, nothing has changed. He had to use his own family station wagon as his 4x4 field vehicle for all those ungraveled forestry roads.
