Default Minnows?

Where’s the best place to find some decent minnows. I as at the south side Fishin Hole in Edmonton, and the stuff they had was pathetic. Cabelas had none. I wish I could find a good place to just catch my own, like in the old days.

I haven't been out this year yet to busy but last year with all the covid BS I found the CO-OP in Lacombe had lots of cheap perfect size smelts & they worked great. I'm sure most grocery stores have a supply

Default Minnows

Spot tail shiners are what I’m looking for. Seems like nobody has anything of quality available. When we were kids we would catch them by the net full. Don’t even see them in any of the lakes any more.

Bait in general seems hard to come by. We were in Meadow Lake a couple of days ago and couldn't find any leeches....everybody claimed they were out but I'm not sure they ever had any. And of course, my own efforts of trapping them came up short, just when I needed them.
They had worms only.

Drought was brutal on our minnow populations, many small streams and ponds have virtually dissapeared. Silt buildup and other factors contribute to more minor spawning areas.

I think that’s the case almost everywhere.
