Default Make sure your lights are on.

Just about every night while I'm driving to work I come across at least one person driving without their taillights turned on. Some of them are probably out every night driving around like this. If I'm behind them I will flash my brights at them but it usually doesn't seem to matter. Just a heads up you might want to check and make sure you have yours on .

Some people can be pretty oblivious to this, I'll even waggle my flashlight from beside them and make a 'flashing' gesture opening my hand wide open and many still don't clue in. One even went so far as to phone the police on me when I did so...... an utterly clueless, daft young woman who was likely thinking (quite prejudicially) that a man in a white van must be some kind of a stalker/pervert.....

I haven't touched my lights for 15 years. Don't all vehicles have the "Auto" option so when it gets dark everything turns on? Is there reason people don't use it?

No they don't all come with "Auto" headlights...

I have had to explain to two people that the day time running lights are not actually the headlights. They thought that turning on the headlights was the high beams

All (new) vehicles do come with an owner's manual... maybe people should familiarize themselves with the function of the controls in front of them

I'm pretty sure anytime you take your vehicle in for some mechanical work they turn your auto function off. You might want to check if your taillights are on!

When was the last time you verified what position the switch is in? So many people never bother to look and don't know its been moved, either inadvertently by themselves or intentionally by another driver. Having the habit of manually switching on ones own lights is a benefit. Frankly I don't know why the manufacturers don't just have the running lights switched on with the DRL's in the first place, its not as though there is a detriment to having those on as well..... its not going to affect the cars fuel economy for Pete's sake.

Could be the same reason their signal lights don't work either, must be low on the bulb fluid.

I've found the problem to be the service centers. Any time I bring my vehicle in for work, the lights are turned from auto to "off", which isn't really off, it's DRL. And with DRL, most vehicles have the speedometer/tach/etc light up, which is deceiving, as most people think their headlights are still on.

I've gotten in the habit of checking them everytime I get my car back now.

Get rid of the stupid DRL, and just make put the proper headlights on ALL THE TIME. problem solved.

I'll be amortizing this thing over quite a while, my last van I had for 18 years so I figured if I pull a repeat it had better be one I like. It's a 4WD so I can get to clients in blizzard conditions, or foggy Christmas Eve's for that matter

This is one of my biggest peeves ...

A lot of people only think about their headlights in terms of whether they need them on to see .

During daylight hrs when it's snowing and in some conditions , raining , and there is still enough light for " them " to see where " they're " going , so they don't turn on the headlights .

But they completely fail to realize that it's not always about how well they can see , but how well they can be " SEEN ".

And simply don't or can't get the brain cells to work well enough to understand the connection .

Vehicles that have the " Auto " lights aren't as bad in these cases , but as has been pointed out on here , one still needs to check that their lights are on.

Nothing more fun than driving in blowing snow , thinking nobody is overly close in front of you , only to see a set of brake lights come one , and realize how wrong you were , not to mention that butt-puckering freak out second of " Holy ...

What I don't understand is the amount of newer vehicles I see daily that don't even have daytime running lights.

Did they not come on with the DRL's in years past?

This seems to be a new phenomenon, and a real problem.

If manufacturers arnt going to include tail lights with all the "auto on" lights then dont illuminate any lights, especially dash lights.

And maybe even add a dummy light and audible warning to turn on their lights for all the dummy's that can't figure it out

Black out kits are the latest fad. I think it looks stupid that is unless it’s a black lambo with the front windshield done as well. That thing is sweet

They should have a switch on the dash to shut off the "check engine" light

The clueless are breeding. This morning on hwy 3 by Burmis I had my hazards on and flickered my hi beams at an on coming car. He gave me the finger as he sped by.

Then he ran into the deer crossing the road.

I just about rear ended a truck that had a DIY blackout job done to it. Someone spray painted the tail lights! In daylight, you couldn't see the brake lights until you were practically on top of it.
