Default bad gear day on the nsr jan 5

popped down to the nsr this afternoon to try my new braided 30 lbs. test. did not even get 1 cast because my spool would not engage when i turned the handle. called wss who spooled it up for me yesterday and asked them if they could have stripped a gear or something. they said bring it in and they'll figure something out. couple guys showed up and started fishing a little downriver from me and within 10 mins. one of them snapped his rod in half.
i did have a second rod and reel with me with light line so i managed to catch 3 walleyes before a pike ripped my line off so i headed home. going to try some perch fishing on sunday.

That's the price you pay for fishing on the river in January! Still better than a good day at work

your line is probably spinning on the spool, you need to put a piece of tape or something on the arbour, i use a little piece of double sided tape so the line cant spin. wind it all onto another reel and see if its loose right on the spool.

this happens a lot with aluminum spools. if they don't tie a proper knot onto the spool as well. what happens is when the line is spun on the spool is warm when u take it ice fishing or out in the cold it shrinks and then knot isn't tight anymore. u can use a piece of tape or else make sure they tie a really good knot (not recommended) or tie some monofilament backing on before your other line if it is a super line u are using.
