Yup I agree. But if you are worried you will leave clip at home it just seems like a logical solution at the end of the days hunt.

I know of more than a few guys who had guns jam on them , and when i asked, it wasa DBM that they had left ammo in for an extended time- a new mag and a caution about emptying it after use fixed thiungs right up!

Hinged... nothing to forget/loose. Personally I prefer blind mags, no cold metal in the hand as you carry the rifle and the action and stock are just a bit more robust.

Trades I would interested in:
- Sightron rifle scopes, 4.5x14x42mm or 4x16x42mm
especially! with the HHR reticle. (no duplex pls.)
- older 6x fixed scopes with fine X or target dot.

Which is the exact reason why my old man simply HATED the Winchesters and the 99 Savage levers!
Otherwise he thought they were great rifles, but to carry one at the point of balance on nothign but metal bugged him to no end!!

It's funny that the comments in this thread show vastly more support for internal magazines yet the poll shows 73% support for detachable magazines...

My sons savage has a DM that is close to flush with the bottom, maybe 1/8 at most raised.

I use hinged floor plate, never drop or loose it, clean look, wont hook or catch on anything and being set on a clip can really narrow your rifle selection down is what I find. There are pros and cons either way. I think there is more important features to consider personally. But thats why manufacturers give us a choice.

Floorplate for centerfire, DM for rimfire.
Just can't see needing to reload, unload or load that quickly with a centerfire. Even the African dangerous game hunters don't seem to worry much about DBMs. Maybe they know something we don't.
The DBM can be handy but the floorplate is always there.

Pop the floor plate belly up, then rotate the rifle to drop the cartridges in your hand.

I like them both. Detach for a road hunt... hinged for hunting in a blind...or sitting in a cutline.

A bolt
I am looking forward to using the A bolt I picked up. It has a DM with a FP. Seems like the best of both worlds to me.
