Setting up Coyote rifle
Just bought a Weatherby Vangaurd Varmit Speical in .223.
I am trying to figure out what would be my best scope option for her, open to suggestions.

For coyote calling I like a 3-9x40. Keeps the scope nice and light and compact. If you're calling them in most shots should be inside 200yds and 9x is more than enough in my opinion to put the shot where it needs to be. As far as brand that personal preference.

Thanks for the input.
I will be trying my hand in reloading and working up a load for her. Should I stay away from BDC redicals that are based on MV?

I am also looking at replacing the trigger. Which I have never done before. I am on the Timney website. Is it personel preferace what the pull is set at or is lighter always better?

timney trigger
Timney's are nice. I have a few of them. Haven't tried any other ones (aftermarket) but the timney's are way better than most stock triggers. It is to some degree personal preference but the heavier the pull the more chance there is of the trigger sqeeze pulling your shot off target! Thus target guns are usually equipped with very light trigger wieghts. I have most of my hunting rifles set at 2-2.5 lbs.
Also for a recomendation for a scope, a friend of mine just bought a scorpion scope 4-16x40. It has hold over dots to 400 yards I believe. I think it was around $220 and came with a set of weaver rings. That is a deal that is hard to beat. They have a lifetime warranty too IIRC!

Yes. Get the Timney upgrade. They are super awesome triggers and easy to install on the Vanguards. For a coyote rifle where you have cold fingers and hands a lot, keep your trigger weight above 2lbs! Also for a scope, buy one that has variable power to at least 14 power...15 0r 16 is even better. Whenever, I have coyotes past 200 yds they always get dialed up to 16! :0

I have a bushnell elite 6-24X on my .223. If a coyote appears 100 yards away, my scope is on 24X. The more the better I say. 9X is good, 24X is _________? They are small critters.

Spend as much as you can afford and add 25%. Haha!
Seriously tho, spend once is better than upgrade twice
Scopes transfer to different guns

Very true, I would rather have a high priced scope on something I am going to shoot 1000 rounds out of a year vs a gun I might shot 5 rounds a year. I just want to make sure I am spending it on the right one.
I am also going to drop her into a Boyds stock. I am wondering if glass bedding will be enough or if I should put pilars in also.

I am about to put a VX2 4-12x40 AO w/LR duplex on my new coyote rifle. I just picked up a special run rifle from Ruger, Hawkeye stainless laminate .223 w/ 24" barrel and adjustable set trigger. Cant wait to get out myself!
I have always pillar bedded stocks if they were going to be bedded anyways then it was covered.

I will look into that scope. My SO picked up the rifle from Bashaws for me the other day and brought it to WCT with her when she came to visit. I dry fired it a couple times. No creep and the trigger breaks like glass. Feels very light to, gonna have to test it before I pop for a new trigger.

Vanguard
Hey Flareking, we should have talked the other day. I put a Timney on my Vanguard and it is just like a different rifle (Better) Rod Henrickson here in Edmonton had done it when I had him replace the pin that holds the bolt in on the Weatherby????
