Use the V-max. Same bullet with a different color tip. Hornady just trying to get in on the Zombie marketing foolishness. Charge more for the same thing cause fools and their money are soon parted.

Hornady Z-max
The Hornady Z-Max are packaged in huge boxes of 500! I guess you wouldn't have to worry about running out for a while! They have them at the P and D here in Edmonton. To test a smaller quantity you would have to buy the V-max to make sure your rifle likes them. Same thing except for the tip!

Actually I remember back in the summer the Z-max projectiles were LESS then V-max from a few vendors... Also the .308 factory loaded Z-max was a 168gr projectile in Hornady match brass for around $35 a box...

V-max
I just bought a box of V-MAX in .243 for 25 bucks or so. P and D prices are better than the big stores, in Edmonton on bullets!

thanks but i read that they arent the same as v max but the a max match bullets. "The V-max uses a match grade jacket formed by a conventional cup and core process. The Z-max jacket is formed by a plating process, so it's less expensive." i just copied that. so i guess what i should be asking is how do you like the a-max's.

I shoot the 40gr zmax outta one of my 22-250s. They have worked very well on the yotes, foxes, and badgers I've shot with them. No complaints and the price is good.

Amax is a good choice for fur friendly , pin hole entries and few exits . Stay away from shoulder hits at close range as it can be undesireable , but then again all bullets will do that .

I sent a email to Hornady beginning of Dec asking what the difference was between the two, their reply was that the only difference was the color of the tip, and the expansion should be similar.

X1- I have both V-max and Z-max in 22, 20 and 17. There is NO difference except the colour of the tip and Hornady confirms this as well. The bulk Z-max were a lot cheaper than buying 500 V-max. P and D in Edm had the best price locally. when I stocked up last year.
