Zeiss are very nice with excellent glass, but I don’t think it would be my choice for a “lightweight” rifle. It weighs almost twice as much as the VX3i (22+ oz vs 12.6). The same is true for Swarovski Z3, which weighs about the same as the VX3i.


The illuminated reticles are great, IMO.

Yes, it is a little heavier, I noticed that as well. I wasn't looking to build a lightweight rifle specifically though, and all in my rifle with scope with empty mags still comes in at a respectable 7 lbs 11 oz. I think I could have got that down maybe another 8 oz or so with a different scope, but it wasn't the prime motivator for me. As it is, I've been out shooting with obsessed1 a couple times with it now, getting it dialed in, and I can only say it is a fine, accurate rifle package. Like, really accurate. Ringing 4" gong at 500 yards had me giggling.

I have a locker full of Sako 85s and none have the ejection issue. Most of the ejection issues tend to coincide with lengthy windage turrets over the ejection port.

Go with a Finnlight or a Stainless/Synthetic in 270Win.

I know I'll get scoffed or laughed at with my choice but with three seasons under it's belt and I hunt almost every day of the rifle season AND I shoot a Perazzi for trap I use the polar opposite for deer hunting and run a Mossberg Patriot topped off with a Nikon Pro-Staff 5 2.5-10 x 42 sitting on Talley's.
Now I prefer wood to synthetic, just personal aesthetics choice so I have the Revere model with oil finished European Walnut stock but the action and barrel are the same on the synthetic models. I don't find a Tikka, Browning, Sako etc any better in fit, finish and most important accuracy. My Patriot Revere 270 Win shoots sub-moa right out of the box with any factory loads I have tried to date. To date mine has accounted for 6 deer in two seasons between my wife and I. We both drew antlered and antlerless Mulie this year so hopefully the tag filling trend will continue going forward this season...LOVE the 270. My absolute fave!

Been smoking deer with a old 243 Rem 788 carbine with a 4x Bushnell for 30+years.
I'd say 90+ % of the shots are sub 150 yd. one shot kills.
I love the way the industry is telling everyone that you need a carbon 6 lb gun with a 6-24x scope with a magnum 6.5/6.8 mm

That saying, a carbon 6 lb 6.5/6.8mm mag gun with a 6-24x scope sure is pretty.

I will be sending my vortex viper HD back as it has been really disappointing with it being blurry and gets foggy on colder days.

I have a browning x-bolt speed with a muzzle brake chambered in the 280 Ackley and love it. Very accurate and has enough power for moose and elk, a wide range of bullet weights also. If you’re a reloader, check out this cartridge.

I would look at
Swarovski Z3 3-9×36

Or

Leupold VX3 2-8×36

Based on my limited experience.
