I am still trapping, focusing more on under ice beaver and wolves. Have a few baits out for coyotes more or less to help out the other critters and I do just enjoy the process. Noticing a lot more coyotes than usual as well. Curious to hear what others are up to?

Thanks

Running the trapline for mainly marten and fisher. Baiting only around 50 traps and increasing time between trap checks to lower diesel and gas costs. No coyotes just some beaver for bait.

For the first time in over 15 years, I’m not snaring coyotes. I really miss it, but with the cost of fuel, and the price was of coyotes, I’m going to wait and hope fur prices go back up. Still shooting a few with the varmint call though.

I still some dogs left from last year but ave$. 45 on the ones sold so I consider myself fortunate there . I dont have to travel far either ,caught the last 2 within 400 yds of the house ...rest of my snares are within 20 mins drive.

Will be setting my one and only spot tomorrow, it is my best area and helping out rancher, who in turn is gonna help me out a little in fuel cost. Good luck to everyone out there.

Like most, I'm throttling back this year. Kept my best bait going to satisfy my snaring fix and it has been busy. Got 9 coyotes out of 14 rams set on the first check.
After January, I'll switch over to beavers for a month or so. No matter what the prices are, its some of the best therapy out there and I've also tried to take someone along every time so someone else can experience the life of a semi-pro trapper!

Also helps to have that extra person to give a hand to carry those dogs to the truck. Lol

If it weren't for the fact that I like so much waking to a cold cabin, I might consider staying home and wake to a warm house.

I'm trapping for my first year ever. It has been a lot of fun so far, though the thick ice sucks for setting for beavers.

I have pretty well all critters present on my line except for lynx as they are at the very bottom of their cycle in this area.

Took my fur into ATA at Westlock. Ladies indicated coyote numbers way down this year.

Shipped some fur a few days ago - still active, and believe that keeping relationship with at least the best landowner permissions important. Definitely taking less coyotes.. but still reasonable amount. Targeting The prolific Beavers and some rats too.

Less about the money this year ; keeping me in shape and on the land

Ladies at ATA in Westlock were asking for help to load fur boxes. Must have been decent amount of fur.

Did not trap or even go out calling (my fav)
Age and lack of fur money has squelched the desire.

I’m not

I thought about setting some Fisher and Lynx sets but really didn’t think that hard. Coyotes have been the thing I truly liked snaring.

yes great looking wolverines, the one animal i think should always be mounted
life size, just tanned is pretty cool to. Hate to see some of those northern ones just cut up for parka trim.
That skull will be a cool addition as well when cleaned up.
