I sold some to buddies for 80 bucks for 1000 LRM ,I had 4000 ,so I sold 3000.One guy sold his off which I sold to him . So I gave him a call saying what the heck , I was trying to help you out .If you needed a few bucks I could have done the same ,he apologized then I felt bad so go figure .
Once you sell ,it's not yours so it is what it is .
Lotsa good guys would sell at a lower prices then the buyers just turn around and resell them jacked right up.
This whole influx of migrants and illegal aliens in the USA has every gun owner in the USA on edge buying up faster then they can make them .plus the war I guess in Ukraine maybe???
The world sure seems to have changed since 2020 , I wish everyone the best.
Like ELK11 said prices will never be what they once were in stores ,so expect 15 to 20 bucks a 100 .
Sure hope things level out ,lotsa folks are hurting just for food .we all need to help each other if possible .

How hard can it be to make primers? You’d think someone would make some to cash in.

Who is going to invest big money , to try and cash in on a shortage, that may be over , by the time that the plant is built and producing primers?

I think the point was primers are pretty simple devices. It wouldn't, maybe shouldn't is the better word, take big money to get a plant up and running.
That being said, I believe multiple primer plants have opened in the USA in the last 12 months, Fiocchi and Expansion Industries being two I know of.

Lapua has one in the works also, in Finland, with production slated for 2025 if I remember correctly.

The construction for the Fiocch plant will begin this year, but it won't be producing until 2025, and according to Fiocchi, it will cost them $42million. Expansion Industries announced a $35 million plant early last year, but it also still needs to be built. So while new plants are planned, it will be another year or two before they are actually producing primers.

My Dad and his friend use to load shotgun loads with black powder and the sulfar of a large wooden match as a primer. This was during the second world war and primers were hard to come by. My Dad said sometimes they would only get a fizzle and holding the old single shot was quite nerve racking, with smoke coming out of the breach. Then decided to tap the stock on the ground before firing to get some powder around the match head. Never had a miss fire after that.

They seem to be in stock in stores in the US. Makes you wonder why they are not making it across the border.

Talking to people in the USA, they are telling me that the situation is no better there.

I have a couple BIL's that winter in the US, I have them looking hard for primers and they have not yet found anything yet, they found a few at a gun show but they were $50 US/100 about the same as the scalpers here.

I’ve seen some stuff about expansion that leads me to believe it’s not gonna happen. The guy has been convicted for securities fraud involving selling “shares” of components during the obummer ammo shortage. Lot of folks down south thinking it’s another scam. Wouldn’t put my hopes there.

I read the same, that leaves Fiocchi, and they won't produce primers until 2025. So if Federal and CCI aren't taking orders until late 2023 at the earliest, our best case scenario, is likely 2024, for new deliveries to Canada, so prices could get a lot higher by then.

You might want to check the US websites now, and see who has large rifle, large rifle magnum, and shotgun primers in stock.

CCI large rifle only, no large rifle magnum, no federal large rifle of any kind or shotgun. Cabelas had none of the three. It's tough on both sides of the border.

That's expensive at Natchez, and in USD. My LGS is the same price in CAD for CCI small rifle and pistol primers and I thought that was expensive...

Just curious, are shotgun primers in the same situation as rifle primers for cost and availability?

Absolutely, last spring I bought 5000 Federals at $70/1000, and another 5000 at $100/1000, and I haven't seen any since. I should make it through 2024, with what I have, hopefully by then, they are available again. I did see a few Cheddite primers last summer at $120/1000, but even they seem to have disappeared.

Cheddite are still available on the east coast @ $80 / 1000 they claim they have 149,000 in stock and Federals are $22 / 100 with a few in stock still, that is all the primers they have.

Hopefully, I don't get to the point of having to use Cheddite primers again, as they pierced in a couple of my shotguns. As for the Federals at $220 /1000, plus shipping, a person would still save some on 410 and 28 gauge, but it wouldn't save you any money loading 12 or even 20 gauge.

Why hasn't reloading primers shop been shut down yet?
You can still find websites showing some stock on primers but its hard to tell if they ate just scam sites.

The primers aren't being ahipped to US vendors either, so this isn't due to Trudeau.

^ I’ll take some for “reasonable” prices, lol.

That’d be about $230 per 1,000?
Once they are back, what would one expect to see prices settle to, any guesses?

$300-500 cad/1000, in 2024.
Thousands of new reloaders (myself included), hundreds of thousands of new gun owners, and everyone who shoots, all saying “this won’t happen to me again”, lack of manufacturer competition and production capacity, inflation, shipping costs, military usage, trade disputes, etc etc etc.
A republican win will not reverse this overnight like last time

There are a few primers in the Rosehill online gun auction this weekend.
Quite an assortment of levers in there.

I just found possible new record, at least for what I have seen on CGN...
"I guess I’ll jump on the bandwagon here…
3 sleeves (300 primers) $800 plus shipping."
The guy is selling FED 215M primers, funny enough he was looking for FED 215M primers on Jan 30, had some powder to trade. I guess he found them....

2025 is a ways down the road (the year stores are being told). That may look like a bargain soon
