NEW. Sturgeon county beaver bounties
I see Sturgeon county is offering a 20 dollar bounty on beavers. The bounty is about the same value as a beaver pelt at auction.

Super!
I’ve also heard of trapper locals giving incentives to members to encourage both trapping activity as well as harvest. Very good idea.

I trap Sturgeon County.
I haven’t given it a lot of thought but I don’t think much will change for me. I welcome the extra $20 per beaver when the pelts are worth something and the castors are full though. I doubt that I’ll go out and trap beaver just to cut off the tail but I’m not completely closed to doing it if someone is in need of help with them.

I don't like the idea of dispatching beaver just for the tail either. I wonder how a summer beaver tastes?
With all the rain in that county I bet the beavers are busy.

I know a fella that lost a whole pasture due to beavers and flooding. The County simply can’t keep up with the beaver issues and had to do something outside of the box. There’s only one County Trapper and he simply can’t keep up. Landowners that I trap for tell me that he’ll trap a couple of beavers and be on his way. Basically just going through the motions and not really fixing the problem.
A $20 bounty is a drop in the bucket in comparison to busting dams with track hoes if they can get to them. I help out landowners at no cost when beavers are worth something but that’s just in a small portion of the county. As much as i’d Like to, at $20 per beaver it’s not really worth a summer career change for me.

Bounty
Summer beavers are worth taking. You can sell the hide, carcass and castor plus $20 bounty. These castor were taken June 23rd.

Very nice, Mike. I averaged just shy of $8 for my castor this Spring. I may trap some beaver in August but that’s the only month that I get to golf and enjoy a bit. September/October I help with the harvest, trapping until May and then building decks, etc until end July-Ish. Maybe golf when the sun shines and trap in the rain?
A fella Trapper told me that a certain buyer isn’t even interested in the quality of the fur and just pays based on weight of all your pelts. I’d be okay with the $16 average that he got.

Sounds like most beaver is getting turned into felt for hats or so I was told when I sold mine. The guy weighed one of my smaller ones and separated them from there. Bigger went for 16 Buck and my small went for 5 buck. All beavers were counted and a price was given. Nothing was graded.

Good day, sir. I am having an issue with beavers on my property and in the park reserve attached to my property. I was wondering if you would be interested in coming to trap it or help us out? Thanks.

HunterDave has been banned, sadly... I believe that he can read this, but I don't think he can reply to you.

Shoot. Ok, thank you. I am still looking for someone to help out. Cannot shoot guns here, and the beavers are causing a lot of damage. Thanks.

Thanks for all your help, fellas! The county has sent someone at their cost. Not sure what guys charge, but this is not on me. I’ll let you know how it works out!
