Went out to West Cove on Lac Ste. Anne today, found 6-7 inches of black ice with some white ice spots. Didn't go more than 100 feet from the boat launch. Caught one pike right at sunset

There is in the neighborhood of 6" of ice on all the lakes I was at this weekend. That includes small trout ponds and bigger lakes.

4-8 inches at pigeon lake from shore out to a heave , i did not cross the heave as there was some open water on the ice and it did not look safe.

North arm of Travers froze over this week, east/west arms are still open.

Rzr went through the ice already, only up to the wheels. Was trying to skirt around some rocks on the ice.

4 inches on McGregor by north dam on Friday. But if you go a bit further from the dam it is inly 2-3 inches. So stay close to the dam.

Drove up to Beavermines Lake and there were fishermen on it. Also went by Butchers Lake and there were 3 tents on it too.

Went out to Cross lake today, ice was 6” and clear, 400’ from shore. Fishing was slow, only 3 perch the largest being 9”. Fished from 4’ to 20’ of water, sure nice to be out on the hard water again.

Small lakes around Caroline/Sundre had 6" last weekend. About half of it good ice. Top half garbage. It was still in the "be careful" status when I was out there.

I was at Coal lake today on the north end.Ice was between 6-8" Caught 7 pike in 3hrs and one of those was a fat keeper.Was fishing in 7 fow.The weather was great too.

Anybody know how this warm weather is affecting the ice so far? I know it's still below 0 at night but I am wondering if the ice is softening up during the day, or if it would be safe to chance a trip out tomorrow.

It's not doing it any favors. I was fishing last Saturday around 2pm. Heard lots of creaks and groans, and knew something was up. Then heard a big bang, water came up out of my hole a few inches, and people started yelling outside. Climbed out of the Eskape to find a new pressure ridge about 50' away, with the crack running right next to my shelter. Not something I'd want to be on top of out alone on a lake...

You know it's making ice if it's busting up like that, pressure has to give sometime, be safe guys.

I've heard a few stories of people having ridges open up right near them before, not something I've experienced yet. I would probably question what the hell I was doing on a frozen lake at that point haha. Until then, all caution to the wind!

Went back to Lac Ste Anne yesterday, ice was thick and solid, 11" near shore and 8 inches further out. Someone had walked out to Farmer Island before me so I followed their trail all the way. Fishing was slow again, several light bites and maybe half dozen other fish seen on the flasher. Gonna be hard to fill my tags at this rate

I read a news article from the States last year where a pressure ridge opened up right through a tent two guys were fishing in. They scurried out before some of their gear went into the water. I think the flip shelter stayed topside.

BTW, you'd better start questioning yourself, as there was around 8" where that ridge opened up.

I packed up and left after that ridge fired off near me. I figured it was a sign from the Fishing Gods.

10” on Snipe as well up north. A lot of pressure ridges which will be super hard to read when it’s snows shortly. I’d add a couple of inches to whatever you consider a safe thickness this early.

Anyone have any reports from Yellowstone on LSA? Might try going out there tomorrow to check for myself
