Default Upper Kananaskis Lake conditions

Hi All

Trying Upper K for the first time, did a search for this year, but didn't find any news about the ice thickness or access or how fishing is going. Any info would be welcomed.

Thanks!

It’s good to go. Was there yesterday.

Two access spots. Both are hills. One closest to rawson trailhead is pretty steep. Easy on way down, but more work coming up.

Boat launch, much more gradual slope for both up and down.

Ice was about 14-16”, just about a whole metal scoop.

Not a lot of snow on ice. So walking was easy. Crusty layer in spots with a few inches below. Some bare spots.

Roads on way out were bare.

Enjoy.

One of the funniest things I have ever seen was walking down that slope you mention from the parking lot. I was ahead of my buddy and had reached the ice surface. I had slipped close to the bottom and turned around to warn my buddy to witness his feet slip out and his whole body was horizontal and at eye level. When he hit the ice he was still flat and I could hear the wind get blown out of him and he was half laughing / half crying. I could not stop laughing in between intermittent, "you okay bud?!" lol

good luck fishin!

Default Upper Lake

I was there 2 weeks ago. Caught a bull on the jawjacker in 40' of water. Marked many fish but they wouldn't chase my tube jigs. Seems very slow there this season. A week ago had a bunch of marks, missed 2 on the hook set in 60' of water jigging a tube jig and a bucktail jig later in the afternoon. Ice was at least 16" then. The earlier the better. Good luck.
