Default Post Rut/October Elk on Bow tips ??

Hey elk veterans,

With the elk gone quiet I have been pushing bush for elk sign and the occasional spot and stalk. Anyone have success bringing bulls in for a late cow rut call or drawing a cow down to location calls ?

Tips on getting on the elk more often for BOW in this mid to late October period ?

I have been finding elk feeding/grazing on public land in the 316s-320s but usually takes the day and they haven't been spooking but they do stay at about 80 yards.

Default elk

Find a fresh track in snow and follow it, some times can catch them sleeping in their beds. One thing I cannot understand is always seems to be a elk at the end of a fresh track, go figure.

My recommendation is find their prefer food source in that general area, look for field where remains of Oats,Peas, alfaffa were left behind, remember elk are grazers.

As for bringing them in to your location, cow elk are extremely responsive to calf call in distress even if not of their own, it's a maternal instinct that they need to check it out, also when making that sound always be on the lookout for approaching predator too, I was stalked by a cougar, earlier this September.

Cheers

Calf call brought in 2 younger elk at 50-80 yards hidden by trees with triple bleating back and a few wolfs simultaneously. (too dark to target but the eyes watched.... 2 sets and wide set).

But good sign despite the time post sunset shooting allowed.
