It's a size 10 jig hook Daichi. Then a dress pin cut to length with a Tungsten bead head. Ice dub Bloody brown dubbing with a little black Maribou tail. If you've never tied a balanced leech just you tube it. I fish it under and indicator near weed beds. Hold on.

Those balanced leeches in that colour will be deadly on most lakes! Nice tie!

Nothing new there. Brian Chan, Phil Rowley and others have been touting balanced leeches for years in a multitude of patterns. Lots of instructional videos on You Tube. Yes, they work and yes, the Diachi 4640 jig hook seems to be a lot better than the Mustad "equivalent".

My take on the balanced leech, not sure if it is taken from somewhere, or if is an amalgamation of different things I have seen. It is on page two.

Default Hooks

I used to get them from WSS. However, I think any decent fly shop should have them. If not they are easy to get online as well as the actual balanced leech in several different colours.I have also had some decent luck with them in flowing water under an indicator.

They do work and a good fly to have in your box but way too much hype over the pattern and materials. It is basically an ultralight panfish jig that has been over complicated. As a kid myself and buddies would take jig hooks and tie dubbing, bear hair, and marabou leech style then pinch small split shot on the hook bend. It was deadly for crappie and trout

Take any of your favourite leech, bugger, or a number of other streamer pattern on a jig hook with a bead slipped up to the bend or barbell eyes and you will get good results. It even works on small minnow patterns that are deadly swung in the current

Principles of the balanced leech are good for how it sits presentation wise but you can create better flies by applying the principles to other patterns

Love these flies, there's just something about the horizontal presentation that trout love. I like having the option to tie it balanced or regular style.

I use these in flowing water to prospect as well, especially with a season like this where we've saw a lot of rain in central alberta. Try dropping a nymph on the back, double up your chances of hooking up. Like you said, hang on....
