Default Lake Athabasca - Post 2

There was some really neat rock formations on some of the islands.....here is a cave looking spot on one of the islands....

During our stay smoke from the forest fires up near fort smith blew in......a smoky sunset jigging for lakers.....

There was some really neat moss growing on a lot of the islands......up close it almost looks like coral.....

I can't remeber which day it was, but my son landed the largest laker in our boat for the trip....my brother got one larger in his boat, but this was our largest.....41" x 21.5"....and as silver as a chinook salmon.

All in all, the trip was an experience my son and I will never forget......

Hope you like the pics,
Cheers,
SH

One heck of a trip. Cool pics. I did a fly-in there once. Fishing was awesome.

Just curious what was the gas bill? Did you get into any pike?

We did go for pike for 2 afternoons....we never got anything big, but my brother got a 44" and the guys in the third boat got one around 25 lbs.

Gas bill was steep. We burned a total of 1043 liters in my boat......gas was purchased in edmonton, Fort Chip x 2, and we had gas flown in for us on the lake.....arranging the gas while you are on the lake is a logistical challenge. The total bill for gas was $1716.....plus $150 for injector oil in my sport jet.

My brother's 350 burned a bit more, but he doesn't burn the injector oil, so our total fuel costs were very close....within a few bucks.

Not as bad as I had would have thought. Boats in general are not the most economic machines out there. Thanks for the post and pics.
