Post New Ice Auger

Got tired of waiting on replacement carburetor for my Tecumseh powered General Dirt/Ice auger to arrive fron some warehouse on the dark side of the Universe.

Read all the auger threads pros cons etc Chose to go with the Husquavarna.

Had to give her a test run so decided on taking it to Hastings lake as its close. And figured to drop a line and amuse myself and the wife catching some little perch.

The good news

-21c Auger was left out overnite and fired up right away first pull. nice to know it will start frozen.

Punched 10" holes in 18" ice faster than wife could clean them out with a strainer and no big spray of ice chips or water when it cuts.

The bad news.
I last fished here 15 years ago when my kids were small. Now I noticed a faint odor like sewage effluent
Not appetizing but what the hell didnt figure on keeping any. Even had the old HBird Ffinder down 10 ft of water picked up schools of small fish??? just of bottom every once in a while.and with T sponder angled showed fish??? 2ft under ice.

Anyhow no bites, maybe the fish were big water beetles, Water was very murky, a few scuds came up with the auger wash, no other invertabrates though.

Too bad about this lake. Would have been well placed to take Grandkids for their first Ice excursion and still be 15 min from home.

I have a cottage there. Probly not schools of small perch, but schools of large shrimp! Water levels are so low there that the weeds are taking over the lake. The raw sewage smell is probly bird poop. Gotta be a foot thick on the bottom now.
Auger sounds great! Hope you have many years of drilling ice with it.
