Concentrate on what you, as a trapper, have to know when you are out in the field. Except for maybe a few questions, it is less about the regs and stats, and mainly about all about types of traps and equipment, identifying tracks and characteristics of furbearers, different trap sets......stuff like that. If you know that stuff you won't have a problem passing. Good luck!

the test isn't that hard but unless you have previous experience I would suggest takeing the course you learn a lot more proper set making to handeling your furs one mistake can cost I have seen people put up furs that are awesome and ive seen total **** the course will teach you the baisic does and donts I really feel it should be mandatory for first time trappers sorry just my opinion

Unless you have experience or have a mentor you should take the course and learn as much as possible.
I'm not a fan of cutting corners when learning new avenues.
Especially if one is dealing with live animals.

I challenged the test and started as a jr within the same season! Some may think it is not the best method, but I am what may be classed as a dynamic learner! Hands on is the best type of learning for me! I am continuously learning and reading all I can! Lately I have been doing most of the trapping on our line as my sr partner has been busy this season building a house! I had my best season to date.

Boots, quit with the browbeating already. Why?

Good job Kristy, if you have done your job and know your stuff, I don't foresee you having any trouble with the exam. Let us know how you do so we can congratulate you when it's all said and done.

he is not brow beating he is simply stateing fact there is more to trapping than passing a test unless you have someone too mentor you you are miles ahead takeing the course it is better for the animal more productive for ie no trial and err good clean kills and a propperly done hide you can take pride in and get top dollar for not kowing kristies experience or if she has a partner the suggestion is the one that is in her best interest not brow beating there have been some pictures posted of hides from peoplr that are baisically ruined if they are accepted at all the person wont get nothing for then there are the ones where the person has done an awesome job just shows what experiance can do better to take course and learn than got it by trial and error

another important part that is missed when challenging the test.

is the image that trappers need to present to the general public.

you see it all the time on this forum. from shot coyotes, with a snare around it's neck, missing a foot. improperly caught animals. caputure of nontarget animals. ect, ect.

all negatively affect trappers.

I challenged the test and trapped for 4-5 seasons and they finally had a cource down south and I took it, I wish I would have taken it from the start. The people who put it on have years of experience and it will make u a better trapper all around. The south country trappers are having a cource in April, you can call Kelly Simpson to get all the details 403-558-0191. The cource will be held around the black diamond Longview area the. Ata president Gordy Klassen will be teaching it with Jim Mitchell.
