Collared wolf!
I picked up a collared wolf at the line today! Do I need to report it to someone? Any particular conditions!

Cool. My Alberta Grizz bear I shot had a GPS stuck up it's nose. I reported it and got a ton of info off that bear I killed. They had followed it for years.
I would report it and get some info from them on that wolf. Try to find out where it hung out and go there and kill the rest of the pack lol

Collared Wolf
I shot a collared wolf years ago and I took the collar into F&W. The wolf was collared NE of Ft. Nelson BC and I shot it on the east side of the Chinchaga river between High Level and Rainbow Lake. Approximately 120 miles from where it was collared. The battery was dead but F&W sent me a copy of the GPS report.
I suggest sending or taking it in as that's how they gather their information and hopefully they will share the information with you!

Make sure you get to keep the collar. It's not reusable and cool souvenir. Let them take the info off it but insist on keeping the collar.

Package it up and mail it to Mexico.....That ought to mess them up!
But seriously, F&W will know what to do with it.

Mark, I have always wondered does the collar rub the fur off underneath. The collar making the hide worthless?

it would be interesting to get info about that wolf. who knows how far he's travelled
you would think that a small reward (or at least a ball cap or t-shirt) would be given to you for turning in that collar. they probably cost a few bucks.

Got home from a line check yesterday and there was a note in my mailbox. They tracked the wolf to my house! I found that amusing

Wolf
I got a big black wolf, that had a collar on. Took it into F&W, and was told it was collared in Montana, they think it came in through Waterton. The collar was dead, and just had 2 bolts to undo. The hide around the neck was matted, but still ok. The Bio from Montana, was supposed to get hold of me with details, but never did

the collar will be equipped with a gps and a vhf beacon which allows the "owners" to track it via satellite and on the ground using vhf beacon by following the beeps. they will most likely want the collar back to download any data they did not receive through the satellite transmissions and then can have the collar refurbished and redeploy as part of their program. expensive little buggers but provide a substantial amount of info.. ask for a map detailing its locations, where it was collared and the pack size it was associated with if it within your area the the info interests you.. there is usually a tag embedded into the collar with contact info, but it sounds like they already found you...ha..

So much for that research. The money spent to catch and collar, paid wages and tracking...
well spent research money.

Hey Mark
Good on you for picking up another wolf. Did they say if you could get back the collar ?
A few years back, there were a number of caribou that were collared, to the north of me, if you know where I mean..It was pretty funny when they found a bunch of the collars at the bottom of a guys outhouse. Of course, nothing was/could be done to this fella
Hope the rest of your season goes well for you....doug...
