Great story, awesome hunt.....CONGRATS!!!!
Memories there to last a life time with your dad sharing the experience with you.
I remember taking my dad who was 65 or 67 at the time, sledding into Kawka. I had been doing it for years, and he never rode in Kakwa....we had a blast !!!

Huge Congrats Man!!! Hard earned, well deserved, and wouldn't have been quite as special without your old man - so everything happens for a reason . Worth the wait, blood, sweat, tears. Cheers!

What did Esrd age your ram at?
I'm curious, because they seem to over age them.
I'm getting 6.5yrs old

Congrats on the ram!
Just wondering where you registered him at? I find it's better to stop at the F&W office in or near the zone you killed him at. I've had most of mine registered in Grande Cache and 1 done in Grande Prairie. I found Grande Cache much more knowledgeable with sheep. Plus the CO's like to know what's happening in their areas.

Funny because I have had the experience where they age them way younger than i thought they were. The CO asked how I came up with my age and I showed him the rings I counted and he changed the age on the registration. to be older and said it was all subjective anyway.
They really need a biologist in every SRD office. It doesnt make sense to me that in Alberta the wealthiest province in the Country SRD is running a skeleton staff.

I agree. I would go so far out of my way to meet up with a biologist and discuss. However I have heard the biologists aren't that much better. I registered him in cochrane and they wouldn't let me come in so when I came back after a half hour they gave me my ram and my piece of of paper and I didn't notice till I left what the age was on the paper but I am going to call them today and straighten it out

That's quick to get your ram back at least. My cousin just took his in a week ago into Calgary branch and they took it saying they will call him in 2-3 weeks! What can take 2-3 weeks? I went with him to ask a few questions and they had no one around.

Thats where I got mine plugged as well, they really didnt care about the age there I wouldn't bother calling. You got the registration paper so I would leave well enough alone. I was lucky enough to get mine done immediatly when I brought it in but the secretary said it could take a week depending on CO availability. They do their "top secret" stuff behind closed doors then let you come in for the registration piece if you want. I think they want to make a call on it being legal or not before they bring the hunter back.

Accurate aging is going to be very important down the road, when it comes down to sheep changes, perhaps as soon as next year. Esrd's stance is that rams are taking longer to reach mature/legal. Re-enforced by aging obvious rams like this one that are obviously 6.5 , to 8.5 to help renforce their stance, by adding a couple of years. So has the trend been, especially with a simple search on A.O and most rams being over aged.
Ask for the annulai measurement sheet. That they should have given you a copy of.
