Default Over 65 Licensing??

Quick question. So over Christmas my grandpa, 75, wanted to come ice fishing with me. He is from Saskatchewan. We tried to go get him a license but the stores we went to wouldn't sell him. There reasoning was because he was old enough he didn't need one. Looking through the regs from what I understand is anyone out of province needs a license and the over 65 rule only applies to Alberta residents. Is this correct?

My Dad and uncles all had to buy one in Sask. Yes they definately need a license if they are non residents.

Yep, he needs one.

I find it a lot easier to get one online. Plus this way you can print off a few and keep them in different places to avoid what Lupincaster did.

What a good way to start a grey power protest against all licenses.

Seniors should get free licenses............and beer.

BTW - you are correct - your grampa, from out of the province, definitely requires a licence.

What bothers me is .... It is so typical of the "big box" sporting goods outlets giving your Grampa, and you bad, and in this case, illegal, advice.

I wish they (big box store clerks) would stop pretending to know the regulations - this is the umpteenth time we have heard of this type of stuff.

....."not willing to sell him a licence" ....... wow .......... I would love to ask that clerk if he/she understands the regulations and if they were willing to cover the fine if they were wrong.

I overheard a young clerk at Cabela's, who was selling someone a basket full of completely useless gear, that "province wide regulations" apply to Wabamun lake. I just had to interrupt and set the record straight - this is a catch and release fishery only !!!!!!!!

It also gave me the opportunity to ask him about some of the contents of his shopping basket ........... which were pretty ridiculous. A very large spinning reel with a casting rod as just one example.

After the customer left - I gave the lad some coaching ..... I'm not sure he appreciated it ... although I was pretty nice, I was quite annoyed at the time.

imho all seniors should have a licsense but it should be free. would help to keep track of all anglers (except the children). i know of and see an awful lot of seniors fishing and when you read stats. about angling in alberta the numbers are skewed when you don't add in the seniors.
i also think that it doesen't matter what province your from, seniors should be allowed to fish for free. our govt's are nickle and dimeing us to death.
