Default What would you do

So, as it sits right now I have pretty much 2 options for finding a new place.
1. Take the crack shack looking place and keep my dog.Peeked in a window to day, its not THAT bad inside.
or
2. Get rid of my dog and have a pick of pretty much any place for rent in town.

Im pretty sure what I have to do. What would everyone else do?

Find someone to keep the dog for you, rent until you find yourself in a "better" situation.

Keep the dog. No question. Mans best friend. 5 years from now or maybe a year from now, you'll be glad you kept your buddy.

And yup, I've had friends with that "It's just a dog attitude" as well. Some people are dog people, some aren't.

One other option is to buy a travel trailer and live in it for now as well. There's lots of rv campgrounds I drive by that have year round hookups with semi-permanent looking trailers pulled in.

Good luck...something will turn up and things will work out. Keep your bud.

Dont mean no disrespect, I like dogs but at the end of the day who is more important, you or your dog? Its just sad what I see sometimes, I own a pawnshop and people that can't afford food for themselves are selling their stuff just to feed their dogs. I think if you can't afford to have a dog then you shouldnt have one otherwise your just going to be hurting either yourself or the dog.

That said, I think you should maybe get a friend or someone you trust to take care of your dog.

I would love to have a dog, I can afford it but I cant keep it inside the house, so im not going to make a dog suffer out in the cold for my satisfaction..

I would sleep way better in a crack shack with my dog beside me, than in a fine upstanding neibourhood without him!

Wouldnt be first time living in a camper, done it for a year when working in states, but unfortunatly, the camper is in her name.
I dont get the its just a dog attitude, if they live to be between say 15-20 years old, thats over a quarter to half a persons life depending on how old they are, thats longer then most marriages these days. How about, its just a wife, whats the big deal lol

Personally I could never leave my dog behind, I really had to look around for places that allowed pets when I moved but at the end of the day it was worth it. I could never give him away, he's my baby!

I was in your position. Give away the dog for a nice place or keep him and live in a not so nice place. We gave the dog to a really nice family who really wanted him. He was a pure bred Boxer, his name was Agustus, Gus for short. He's probably not alive now as it was 10, or so years ago. Worst decision I ever made. I regret it to this day and it brings a tear to my eye writing this. I'll live in a trailer before I let one of the household go. Don't get rid of the dog, it's not his fault.
A now very sad Tullfan.

Lots of folks could and would get rid of the dog. I'm NOT one of them, nor would i ever ask a forum their opinions. I guess it depends on which type person you are, and the type of relationship you have with your dog.

Personally I think that if someone can just give up a dog they shouldn't have had it in the first place.
It is a commitment for life. His our yours whatever is first. Think of how you'd feel if you found out the pup had been abused down the road. I honestly don't think I could live with that.

Like he said.

Its like having a Baby and then 6 years goes by and you want to move and one place is dumpy and the other is a over 18 years old condo.

You can't just give her up.

For all you know she could save your life when your fishing. Maybe a bear or Cougar or even a coyote comes out. I know who will protect you Your best friend, That will give up her life for you.

I vote KEEP!

I am going to have the same issue.

Company is transferring me to the Leduc base sometime in the next couple months. I need to find a rental in the Wetaskiwin area that will accept my dog.

I want to buy but can't until the house in FSJ sells... pretty nervous about this.

Especially going through a break-up. You don't have to live in a lousy place forever.

Plus it might be fun to be "that guy" for a while... "Hey, that's the crazy guy who lives in the crack shack. Don't cross him, you don't know what he will do!" LOL

With the way THAT dog looks,I would bring her with me to check out rental places. They might make an exception if they see her in person.

I'm all about dirty pool,so if people are still saying no,show up wearing huge, dark sunglasses (Babe Winkleman Style) and say that she is a service dog and that Landlord's cannot discriminate because of the dog. This will not work if it takes 2 hands on the leash and all your weight to hold her back because she won't stay still! LOL!

If you're in the position . . . volunteer a second security deposit specifically for pet damage. Having the additional security might be enough to sway a property owner.

Friends of mine had the same problem (but they had FIVE dogs). They found a place they loved, and with an additional security deposit they were able to strike a deal.

There are also some insurance companies that will cover dog damage under tenants/contents/home policies, provided the canine is listed under the policy. Check with your broker to see what can be done about your contents policy.

Also, have a look at this (specifically the third party damage coverage):
http://www.petcareinsurance.com/can/...nce-tenant.asp

Home owners are worried about damage when it comes to pets. If you can assure them they won't be left holding the repair bill, they'll be more accommodating.

This has to be the quote of the year. I love that. It's just a wife. NICE.
I can't wait to show my wife this thread. She's going to have a laugh at that one.

By the way I'd take the crack shack and fix it up to your liking.

A home without a dog, is just a house.

Pretty much every place I have rented I have spent my own money to fix it up a little, id rather spend $20 on a can of paint than fight wit a landlord to do it. And when you leave I fin d they dont hesitate to give the damage dposit back when the place looks better than when you moved in

Might be about time to think about a mortgage instead of the renting money pit ?
