Moose hunting broadheads
Just curious if anyone has any experience with using NAP killzone broadheads on moose I have shot a few deer with them and they work great just curious about the thicker hide. What does everyone shoot for broadheads on moose and how well have they worked?

Broadheads
Moose are easy to kill for such big animals but every year people lose them to two things. Improper shot placement and poor penetration. Watch some YouTube videos and pay special attention to penetration, if the arrow doesn't dissapear from sight, I consider it poor penetration. If half the arrow (and often more) is visible it's poor penetration, no question. Seriously, watch some videos
Every time that I've gone after big animals I've paid special attention to my arrows and broadheads. A well set up arrow can "sometimes" overcome the problems encountered hunting. Problems that cause poor flight, poor shot placement, poor penetration etc. Do some serious research regarding your arrows and you'll probably come up with a different combination than most folks believe in.
Take a look at dr. Ashby reports and also look up Andy Ivy, I think he's got some videos on YouTube shooting big animals.

The only Moose I've shot with the bow was with the old Rocket steel heads. Worked great!

Used a rage hypodermic on my last moose. 55 yrds quartering away and the arrow stopped on the far shoulder. The moose made is maybe 15 yrds max.

I think I'm going to give them a try this year... I have a few and there is a couple that seem harder to open with my fingers. Almost makes me think they wouldn't open when shot...

Watch these. If they are ones designed for X-bow they have a stiffer spring retainer. If they are assembled correctly and you have 60-65KE they always open.

100 grain slick tricks, pass through everytime, except when I hit the off shoulder, it barried in the blade so much that I had to break it out.

I'm happy to hear this from someone first hand. After doing some research and reading a lot of reviews. I decided to pick up and run 100 grain magnum slick tricks for my first bow season. I haven't killed anything with them yet but I am looking forward to it.

I figure they would work good because they are similar to the rage. I think I will just stick with the killzone I did a few tests the last couple days and I feel pretty confident in the broadheads

Still using NAP Thunderheads in 125 grain. Had to replace a couple of blades but in over 30 years they still do the job. Firm believer in fixed blades, why mechanicals, just asking for trouble. Moose, elk they all go down with Thunderheads as long as the arrows in the right place.

Fixed blade
Couple years ago I found a dead bull with a three blade rage angled into the body about 5 inches in heading through the liver on its way to the lungs...but never made it there, as the hair and hide of a moose is thick, my suggestion is avoid a mechanical or expandable...again I would suggest my favorite the Wac' Em fixed blades, they are available at Canadian Tire stores and are strong, sharp and require almost zero tuning on my set up.

Can't argue those old school bad boys if your bow shoots em good. They sure have been around a long time. Always were scary sharp too.

2 Longest tracking jobs in 14 years of guiding bowhunters both were shot with mechanical heads. Only one was a poor angle. other one the blades broke on ribs.
Personally Slick Trick 100s or my old Thunderheads 125s both worked great for me.

I have been using nap 100 grain thunderheads for the last few years, the toughest animal I have taken with them is a buffalo and had great results. I wouldn't hesitate to use them on a moose.
