Had an awesome day on Cold Lake today. Caught a few big ones, the biggest 20.5 pounds.
Went back in to be caught again. Hope he lives. Took 30 min to revive him, so he swam away under his own power. I think he'll be fine.

As much as the releasing is good, if you got near the gills, theres a solid chance he sunk to the bottom. Holding from the gill plates is not so good when releasing, neither is weighing the fish from a hook scale. Best to stay away from eyes, gills and mouth all together, by cradling the underside and holding the tail in your hand.

Nice fish though.

Nice one Matt , ours just had way more belly. Gonna take my daughter next trip , around the 23rd. Shes excited , had fun watching the electronics and playing with them last year. Great to see some big ones this year.

Location helps too. I like to get away from the crowds. I use a cutdown casting rod , 48-50 inches so it fits in the shack, a good casting reel and fireline crystal 14lb main line to 17lb mono leader. I don't like stinger hooks and will still catch more than my partner who uses one. I rarely lose fish. All personal choice.

Although I mainly use home made bucktail jigs (various colors) I caught the pictured fish on a big chartreuse rubber jig with a stinger.

NO BAIT!!!
