Default Happy -Canada Day

Thought this would be worth sharing .....

D.

There are so many reasons to love Canada: freedom and opportunity, public education, and universal healthcare, welcoming citizens, diversity, natural beauty, and amazing landscapes from coast to coast to coast!

This year marks Canada’s 153rd birthday; in comparison the United States is 244 years old. In the last 25 years much has changed in Canada. No longer are conversations being held in school about North American comparisons, instead our history and identity are being learned and appreciated, the high points as well as where we need to improve.

Here are some lesser known facts about Canada:

While most people think of Australia when they think of snakes, Manitoba is the snake capital of the world, having the highest concentration of snakes. In May, over 70,000 snakes come out of hibernation!

Canada produces 85% of the World’s Maple syrup and 80% of global green lentil exports are from Our neighbors in Saskatchewan!

Quebec City has over 4.6 kms of fortifications, it is the only walled city north of Mexico and was the first city in North America to be become a UNESCO heritage site.

In 1967, St. Paul Alberta created the world’s first landing pad for aliens. Canada’s Defense Minister, Paul Hellyer was present for the unveiling. It also contains a time capsule that will be opened in 2067!

We have National Parks that are bigger than some countries! The Wood Buffalo National park is the largest National Park in the country.

Just under 90% of Canada is largely uninhabited… and we also have the largest coastline in the World.

The name Canada comes from the Huron-Iroquois word Kanata, which means village or settlement.

The first inhabitants of North America arrived in Canada at least 14,000 years ago!

The world’s most northerly sand dunes are in Athabasca Provincial park in northwest Saskatchewan.

In 2018, the median age of Canadians was 41 years old.

Winding its way between New Brunswick and Nova Scotia, the Bay of Fundy encompasses 170 miles of craggy cliffs. The specific size of the bays helps to create the world’s most extreme tides!

The Royal Montreal Golf Club is the oldest Golf Club in North America!

The California roll was invented in Vancouver!

Hamilton, Ontario bears responsibility for inventing the Hawaiian pizza!

Peanut butter innovator Marcellus Edison, a Pharmacist in Montreal patented “peanut paste” (butter); and in a more sophisticated form, now found in 94% of households!

Canada Day in our homes is marked by BBQ’s, sitting outdoors (if the mosquitoes don’t carry us away), and enjoying the company of friends and family, hope that on July 1st you have a terrific day; however, you might choose to spend it!

And how many countries can claim towns named Big Beaver with a Climax just down the road?

You might be right. If nothing else I am sure it’s racist to celebrate the birthday of a nation build on oppression lol!!!

Proud Canadian here. Hopefully my grandchildren will all be alive to celebrate Canada’s 200th. Going to ask them to save some of my ashes to send up with the fireworks.

The flag here will be flying upside down, just like every other day.

Truly sad....you need to pack up and bugger off...another nation might meet your expectations...unless your trolling.....

I just put up a fresh flag on the flag pole that flies out front of our property....and the light below that comes on at dusk and off at dawn was replaced too....

A few people here need to go and actually live in some of the crap holes they now compare us to.
Guaranteed they’d be back with their tails between their legs.

There will be no celebrating Canada Day at my home until the turd is removed from power. His whole family has been a horrid disease for Canada. EVERY time a turd has been in power, they have taken it upon themselves to try and destroy the lives of Albertans.

Canada IS a great place that deserves a MUCH BETTER leader than the Alberta hating moron we have now. Prime Ministers should have a love for the ENTIRE nation, not just one province.

For the last 4 years, an Alberta flag has replaced the Canadian flag at my home. The Canadian flag will fly again as soon as we have a PM that is willing to better the entire country and I really don't care which party they are in, as long as they are fair to all who live here, not just the french speaking.

This turd government is corrupt beyond corrupt so I see no reason to celebrate when our beloved nation is being drug deeper into a cesspool.

It's called a peaceful political protest, not like rioting in the streets and looting stores.

Canada Day? Very sorry but it doesn’t do much for me anymore. This country bends to other cultures, gives paydays to terrorists, gives more to new Canadians starting out while treating its veterans like garbage, allows other cultures to not follow laws we Canadians always had to and we are slowly losing our identity because we have a priority on being a melting pot or menagerie of yuck.....

Be proud folks be proud...

I second this opinion. There is no need to protest as it appears he hangs flag upside down often. If people don’t like Canada that much really they can leave. Guess a lot of people are just bitter and need to b*tch about everything.
Yes we all can have an opinion and my opinion is if u hate Canada so much leave. The thread is about celebrating our great land. Instead of people ragging on Canada in this thread start another thread about hating Canada and then all the haters can join on the thread and run the country to the ground.

I agree with alot on here.... both sides, yes we are fortunate to be in Canada. But to say other places are horrible so we can be thankful is not progressive. People saying leave etc is about as left as you can get. We are suppost to be free and have the right to choose. I dont like your opinion so leave is just a bunch of bull@#$% that has no place in Canada. If another war torn country is our comparison as to how far we can slide as a society than people need a better way to measure. Look at our country just 8 to10 years ago Canadas economy was in way better shape and our place in the world as a place of reason and common sense was respected. We are a joke now. Turd has destroyed my grandkids future. For people to say we have it good....they either have there heads in the sand or have a very screwed up moral compass. Black face, snc lavalin, rcmp, bribes, crime, covid crap, chinas interference in all levels of government, paying terrorists, bringing them home, lack of respect for the west, lack of due process for infrastructure projects, lack of accountability by our leaders, pandering to the extreme left, leaving our vets behind, sucking up to the U.N, banning 100s of million in private property with a oic. spending money our kids grandkids wont pay back....yep great place cause the other side of the world is a s#$% hole. I will be replacing the Canadian flag with a Alberta flag this Canada day. Never thought I would but I can't be proud of this place as a whole. I wouldn't fly it upside down yet but its getting there. I will fold it respectfully and put it away for a day when I can see my kids having a future were left wing agendas dont fly wild and idiots run the country.
Just my 2 cents if I hurt your feelings. That's life.

It is a great country, less so than it used to be though, due due poor political leadership. Wilfred Laurier said the Twentieth Century belongs to Canada, somewhere we went off the tracks.

Oh yes .............that's how some view democracy in their rose colored glasses. Sadly, there's way too many thin-skinned Malcontents here ... and their only contribution is to whine all day.

Default Canada...going to hell since 1867.

You girlz do realize that to roughly half the voting population of Canada the wrong party/leader been in power for the last 153 1/2 years. If it bothers you that much quityurbitchin on the internet and get to work on getting the "right" party in power.

I love my nation!

I hate the politics of my nation!

Sad that Canada day falls mid week this year, it kind of dampens big plans. Although I guess I’ll reserve my biggest celebratory endeavours to the American holiday this year.
