Default Jason Kenny Seeks to Suspend Temporary Foreign Worker Program

So the clown that implemented the TFW mess when he was Employment Minster so that oil companies could circumvent paying locals full wages wants it suspended now.

Lol, I totally agree with this “clown”. When our economy needs the foreign workers I’m ok with them. As of now with so many people out of work this program needs to be at least put on hold.

Probably referring to folks a little more foreign than that.

It'll be interesting to see if unemployed/underemployed Albertans will take these jobs.

What we've seen on the east coast with fish processors being unable to attract local workers is likely to play out here, imo.

Quote:
Premier Blaine Higgs said unemployed New Brunswickers and students on summer break can fill some of the 600 job vacancies that were to be filled by foreign workers.

But Jacob describes a virtual job fair launched by the province this week as a waste of time and money that brought "zero" results.

When he implemented it all it did was allow employers to bring in workers at 15% below market rates and drive down wages for the regular working Albertan..

But at least it allows for half a dozen liquor stores and donair shops within a 5 block radius at the end of the day...

Question being, Just how low unemployed Canadians are willing to stoop for work ? That's why we have foreign workers in the first place.

Ya but our minimum wage is way higher!!!!

I'm actually completely agreeing with you. It's shameful what has to be done to supplement and subsidize wages in the maritimes in order to get locals and students to work fish plants and farm labour jobs.

I think we need a bit of a re set in Alberta. Far too many teens see a McJob as beneath them, and around me at least, will not work weekends. It really bothers me so many have that attitude so young . A lot of valuable life lessons started with McJobs and pumping gas. It would do our young people a lot of good to learn those lessons.

A business owner in Waterton can't find 130 workers to fill positions as justin is paying them to stay home and vote liberal and now he just gave nearly a billion dollars to his buddies to dole out to the students who would normally fill those jobs.

I have a couple friends who own greenhouses and they use foreign workers. They are still absolutely a must. Their work is seasonal and comes and goes. for minimum wage its hard to find people local who will actually show up to work. Right now they are at their peak of around 40 workers each. they have turnover of about 6-8 locals per week but the TFW show up to work each and every day with half the drama.

I actually like it that our young won’t take crap jobs at very low pay. It then changes the way businesses do things. Currently they paid off politicians to bring in foreign workers to take these crap jobs. If the companies paid more and made better working conditions people would be there working. The old way of being loyal to a company is gone and for good reason. All companies are big and if downturn they have no issue laying anyone off.
It is the me generation and they will hopefully change businesses with their attitude . Unions have pretty much no power now. So everyone needs to look out for themselves and they use social media to let everyone know place x is crappy place to work.
Most young now will change jobs about 6 times in a lifetime and also change careers.
I think they should shutdown foreign workers and see wages increase and conditions improve. Most McJobs don’t give full time jobs and screw around with kids schedules as they think they can. They used to before not now as me generation tells them to go scr*w themselves . People need jobs but they need a job that fits their individual priorities not what a business demands of them.

Why did we not need these people in the 80’s and earlier decades?
Because we didn’t need all the fast food places, liquor stores, convenient stores and the like like we do now. Needs vs Wants....

Why because there were stupid farm boys like me that worked harder at home and we’re used to working **** jobs at home. We worked in these places and thought nothing of it. But now pay the price with screwed up backs and other body parts and barely get around now. I like that people say places need foreign workers that come to Canada and work hard for minimum wage. Who can make a living and expect to raise a family on minimum wage? They bring foreign workers in jam them in crap conditions and exploit them. Our young go used to go work in Alberta oil fields driving truck making $50 an hour instead of picking fruit 12 hours a day for minimum wage.

TFWs were always paid at par with domestic workers on all the Fort Mac projects I was involved in. Liquor stores and donair shops pay minimum wage regardless. I'm assuming other industries lowered wages that weren't minimum already?

This is going to upset a lot of small businesses. TFW work damn hard for their money, I don't see Canadians working nearly as hard, something will have to give. I cannot even imagine what this will do to food prices. Packing plants, greenhouses and farms will all be effected.

Its kind of ironic that what you are calling " crap jobs" mexicans are willing to leave home and come to a strange country to do them and do them well but unemployed canadians call them crap jobs and would rather collect welfare . Oh , and by the way , there are some people that may take offence when you call working with bees or livestock as " crap jobs ".

Right now , there is a down turn and our federal gov is paying people to stay home . How do you think that is going to play out ? If a company , any company , is in a downturn what would you suggest ? keep paying employees even if there is no work for them ? I read on here a while ago that socialism is great , till you run out of other people's money .

Min wage is $15/hr. I don't see that how that is very low pay to a teenager. Sask and Man both have a min wage of less than $12/hr.

I was raised there is no such thing as a bad job, and that any job was better than no job. I think young people who think that way will go further in life than people who think " I can't work for less than.." .

BINGO!!!!

Albertans don't need most of their wants. Why Albertans need to have everything someone else tells them they need is beyond me. The one thing Albertans should want and badly need is a gov't that can actually govern for all Albertans. Not for foreign entities.

Do away with TFW and create a job placement program for those who apply for welfare

If you turn down work offered no welfare check that month

Why would anyone cashing in on Cerb payments want to go to work picking fruit or grinding out the work that TFWers do for whole lot less money than Cerb? Trudeau has done nothing but reinforce with young people that money just grows on trees, don’t have to do a thing to get it - just relax in parents home and it will just come. What a huge negative lesson to young people this entire Cerb program has become. The entitlement generation just became a whole lot more entitled as they pick up another $4000 for doing absolutely nothing.

How ironic that one of the main instigators of this abominable TFWer program is now wanting to cut it off. It should never have been brought forth in the first place. It was all about placating greed and now the price is going to be paid by those who have made huge dollars by exploiting the TFWers who have been coming for years. The street is not so easy this year.
