Default Semi-Auto Decision

Decided to treat myself to a new Semi-auto 12 ga--Just curious on members thoughts--its between these two

https://www.cabelas.ca/product/35292...i-auto-shotgun

https://www.cabelas.ca/product/97009...ortech-3-stock

I do love Benellis, but have heard issues with the SBE3.

Thank you

Do you need a 3 1/2 inch chamber?

Take a close look at Stoeger, pretty much exactly the same gun as Binelli but for around $800... I ended up buying it 3 years ago and have zero regrets! The only difference I noticed so far between Stoeger and my buddy’s Binelli is that Stoeger is a bit heavier.

They both fit about the same, and both shoot 3.5". Kind of wanted the inertia driven over gas,but have read a lot of problems with the SBE3.

Do mainly goose and ducks

They are both inertia designs, but they are not pretty much exactly the same gun. The principle of operation is the same, but the parts that each company uses to make that happen are not interchangeable.

I have an A400 but would prefer a Benelli after trying one.

But do not base your decision on other people’s opinions in this case. Both are high quality shotguns that you will be happy with.

Also wondering on the cleaning aspect of the gas vs inertia. I do like the coating on the A400---she will see lots of bad weather.

I owned an A400 , and a SBE2, and I much preferred the A400, much softer recoil, it easily functioned with light target loads where the SBE2 was a bit fussy. Cleaning an A400 is not a big deal, and it doesn't have to be done very often. I actually sold both the A400, and the SBE2 and kept my SX-3, because I shot better with it.

Interesting, going to shoulder them both again after work. Sure leaning toward the A400 though.

Thank you

I tried both that you mentioned, and settled on an A400 Unico. Has never failed to cycle yet, perfectly comfortable and reliable. I liked the way it fit better for me.

After shouldering benelli's, Berettas and Brownings I went with the beretta a350, it fit me the best, shouldered it with my eyes closed, opened my eyes and I was looking perfectly down the front sight.

I found it pointed better. I’m not very talented in the shooting department and I consistently would get more hits with the Benelli.

The better the shooter, the more faith that I put in shooting the guns to determine which fits better. If you go from 20-21, to 23-24 at skeet, then the gun likely does fit better, but if you go from 5-6 to 8-10, your form may be so poor, that you need to work on holding the gun properly, before you can determine which gun really fits you better.

Beretta's are inertia now? I did not know that. Thought it was only Benelli and Franchi from that group that were.

Look at the post I quoted, the poster was comparing Benelli and Stoeger, there was no mention of Beretta.

My mistake sir. All apologies. Had me thinking though. Was ready to unload my Beretta for a new one for a second.

And only one second. Will never happen.

There is no way that I would trade a reliable gas operated gun that I shot well, just to have an inertia driven gun.

We have 3 benellis in the group and they are much loved, SBE II"s so cannot comment on the newest incarnation, tho its hard to imagine how they would ruin such a great shotgun?? Use 3.5's BB late season honkers, and 3" #2's early. Often switching it up to #4 2 3/4 when the ducks decide to visit the spread.

I don’t see the advantage in buying an inertia driven gun over gas. Laying on your back in a coffin blind shooting geese with 3 or 3-1/2” I think you would want the least amount of recoil possible.
