Tasmania has a lot of fine rivers, streams and lake that are stocked with a variety of salmonids. So I bought a 5 weight fly outfit a 28 day licence and a fist full of $7.50 each wet and dry flies. Unfortunately we were there in the "early season" when the streams are high and cold. It was windy and rainy most of our trip. We even got snowed on up in the mountains in the north west (Cradle Mountain area)
I tied some wind knots and decorated some trees with expensive flies but caught no fish.
Here is a pic of a rainbow I wish had hit my bead head nymph. But it was in a pond in the oldest fish hatchery in the southern hemisphere.
