Default Suckers on a fly?

Has anyone ever fished for suckers in the early creek season?

talked to a fella today who says he sees tons of big ones in willow creek in late spring to spawn on the gravel. Would be fun to drift some egg patterns or little nymphs past them and see what happens....

I really used to look forward to the suckers running, unlimited fishing right at my backdoor!!!The only consistant way that I found to catch them was drifting a Black Knat past them in the rapids when they were running, setting it when the line stopped drifting.I never did catch one in deeper water.

Willow is closed until June 16. Not sure the suckers will still be there after the run-off goes through. They will probably be done spawning and head back to the lake

If you nymph, you will eventually catch a sucker. However, the places where you typically fish a nymph won't hold suckers because they like it slow an deep. Once on Herald Creek, fishing a flying black ant for browns, I was not paying attention to my fly and it sank. When I went to cast again there was something solid on the other end and the fight was on. I thought I had hooked into a huge brown, which turned into a 5lb sucker. My fishing partner never laughed so hard in his life.
