Default 2016 gopher thread?

Well all, is it too early for this? I shot my first one today. There were a dozen or so running around, so not a fluke.

.........plus 1 = 1

Just a funny thought... the 2015 gopher count on AO was 33951 gophers killed by members.

With todays meat prices maybe keep a few for the smoker. If each gopher has a 1/4 pound (4 oz.) of meat 33951 gophers equals 8497 pounds of meat. Or 4 tons of burger.

Another thought... gophers are a pet of prosperity in China and are even sold as pets in places like Toronto for up to 175 dollars each. 33951 gophers @ 175$ each equals 5,941,425.00. I'm thinking the AO gopher hunters should start the Alberta gopher co-op & wranglers assoc. and supply gopher pets and meat to the world.

Enjoy the gopher hunt this season...

with temps in the plus side of double digits these days down south it doesn't surprise that they would be out!

I think that number might be a little far fetched.

I'm so jealous! Bought a Rugar American predator in .223 to shoot gophers this year next to me Rem. 597 HB. Why can't the gophers be out already in my side of Alberta.

Went to a ranchers field on the weekend to blow off some work stress... The poor guys pen was literally infested with gophers... I take back what I said about killin too many....

We got 80 confirmed between the 3 of us and barely made a dent.

Default 2016 gopher thread?

Is anyone in the camrose, westlock, barrhead, areas looking for a gopher hunting partner? My trigger finger is getting very itchy.

Default population recovered

2-3 years ago there were virtually none considering my boys used to shoot 2-300 a weekend when they lived here. Heard something about a virus wiping out a lot of them and it looked to be true.
Today made 3 trips to the field planting pheasants for clients and must have seen 30-40 each trip out. Didnt even get out to the west pasture but it seems they have bounced back big time from just 2 years ago.
