Default ice fishing april 9

went to spring lake today for trout and perch. got there at 2:30 and stayed till 9:00 when it got dark. fished the north side of island (where i had planned anyway) and was sheltered from south wind all day. had the lake to myself. it was an absoultley, positveley beautiful day. 2" of hardpacked snow and no floodwater. ice 25" thick and hard. water a little murkey and a little skunky. saw 3 deer running across the ice from the island (i thought deer stayed off larger bodies of frozen water) only one setback today. i got SKUNKED. thats 2 days in a row. fished from 6' of water to 18' of water and tried every trick i knew but no joy. i could have walked closer to the areators but thats a good 2 city blocks further and wind exposed. next time.

Fish are pretty lethargic at this time of year.

I was speaking with ron from the trout club last week and he was saying that the oxygen levels are critical right now. Hopefully they pull through but it looks like itll still be awhile before turnover. Im thinking alot of the smaller lakes are going to be in trouble.

I had good success in 2 FOW at another trout pond, think that the trout are close to shore this time of year and looking for a creek to try n reproduce or they will usually congregate at where they were released from the fisheries by the truck,,boat launch, gravel bed etc (stocked trout can't reproduce but try anyway) definitely would give the shallows a try and throw a camera down to see if there is any life down below

This ^^^

Can't fish too shallow. Fish any gravel or active water inlet source.
