Picked up one of these last year at Cabelas on sale. What a great sonar! Way easier to use than the Humminbird Helix I had on my jet boat, and comes pre-loaded with maps and depth charts too!

I've been in the market for a new fish finder and had my eyes on a few different Helix models. Thanks for the input.

No problem! I had the Helix 7 with side imaging, and now have this exact Garmin. I had to watch a ton of videos and scroll through a ton of menus on the Helix to get things working OK. But it was a steep learning curve. The Garmin was simple to use right out of the box. It has a touch screen and buttons to use, and you can make your own custom screens that are easily scrolled to as soon as you start up. The mapping and depth charts are excellent on there too. Even has some tiny pothole trout lakes in Alberta. I think that would be like a $150-200 map upgrade on the Humminbird. I know which one I would highly recommend over the other, unless you want to be in the middle of the action on the lake and busting out your phone to search how to do a basic function lol.

Default Echomap vs Helix

With the echomap, can you map bottomhardness or weedlines like you can with the Helix? I'm most curious about fishing weedlines, and

Also on sale for same price at Radioworld and Cabelas.

Is this the time of year to get the best sales? In reading reviews, this was on sale for $600 at one point in time.

It will definitely show the differences between weeds and bottom if that is what you are asking. I got mine for $699.99 around this time on sale at cabelas last year...

The Autochart on Humminbird will not only map the depth contours, but also create maps of bottom hardness or weed beds on the bottom. I believe that is the feature he is asking about.

I use the 10ah Marcum Brute Lithium battery from Cabelas. It came with a charger too. Got it on sale when I picked up the fish finder last year. Seems to last at least a couple solid days of fishing before needing a recharge. I haven't ran it all the way to empty yet. I see they have the Dakota 10ah Lithium battery on sale this week too. A company called Alberta Lithium from Lac La Biche have good lithium batteries there too. I have a 10ah of that brand for a water pump.

Milwaukee m18 12ah HC (8 or 9 works as well) Added bonus, you can use it with all milwaukee m18 power tools.
