i left a couple of messages with the town, but haven't heard back yet.
smoke lake mainly for the reason that it isn't as crowded as Iosegun and if the fishing sucks at Smoke can always go to Iosegun for the day.
actually fished Smoke last year and the fishing was pretty decent considering there was about 1-2ft chop on the water and the wind was howling all day. caught a few decent walleye and pike. and the campground looked pretty nice.
Havnt been to Smoke in a few years , always had good luck at a drop off across lake to the left of campground.Lots of fish, very rairly got a keeper.Suposed to be huge Pike.If Smoke is still iced up ( usually is on long weekend ) try Isogun , Cranks work well there.
lots of nice eyes and lots of hammerheads about. probably one out of 4 would be keeper size on the eyes, but we didn't really measure any as they all went back. one decent pike all weekend but he was probably just shy of legal size.
most fish were in shallow all weekend still. best luck in the bays at around 4 - 6 ft. crank baits were the most consistent with spoons being not far off.
there is a huge drop off straight out from boat launch. it goes from 4ft to around 16 ft in about 10 yds. there was a few there but they were mostly in the shallows this weekend still.
and very few campers and boaters out all weekend. just us and some tenters in our loop. maybe 10 groups all togather in the campground. nice and peaceful.
went up to Smoke early June and the walleye fishing was incredible. They say when the fuzz is flying the fish are biting and it's true. spent 3 days on the lake and landed well over 80 walleye between three of us. got a couple of keepers each day...nothing better than fresh walleye...mmm. Didn't see any of the supposed monster pike though. The few we did catch were pretty small.
