Default Pine coulee burbot

Hey guys, i read on the forum during hard water season lots of you were catching burbot at PCR. Can you do this when the ice is off too? We've been trying but have been unsuccessful. We use a minnow with a slip bobber and put it probably in 18 feet of water and about a foot off the bottom. We fished pretty late last night, until about 10:30 but still only walleye. I've tried a few times for burbot there and still no luck. Any tips? I've never caught a burbot before so i really don't know what I'm doing haha

Thanks
Battery

I've been always successful at PCR at night with almost the same setup off the dock. We don't use bobbers though as you can't see them anyways and we leave the bait sitting right on the bottom but one foot off the bottom should be fine still. If you are catching walleye you might not be as deep as you think.

We use smelts but I don't see why minnows wouldn't work also as I've caught burbs with powerbaits before

I don't think it is a good idea to put peach in there. It is ok for now but later on when the walleye start reproducing, the peach wound eat some of the walleye fry! I think. I was at pcr till 10:30 pm last night.

I've always had good luck there with burbot, but I only hit it during hard water.

Now that I think about it, I've never caught a burbot anywhere else - can anybody recommend some other burbot spots in S. Alberta?

I caught a burbot yesterday at PCR on a pickeral rig with chunks of smelt. I have caught 2 there, both at about 2030 hours. I wonder if it is the time of day?

Ya I think that burbot only eat at night so timing is definitely a factor in catching them. My first burbot was caught this last winter on this lake and was about 10pm if I recall on chunk of smelt bouncing on the bottom in about 25 feet of water.

I have only been there twice.

The dock seems to be the best place. You can go under the bridge and on either side of it but from shore you lose many rigs and lures due to the rocks.

Pickeral rig or jig off the dock seems to work best. One guy was fly fishing off the dock and caught quite a few walleye.

I am not sure about the burbot, I caught them both with smelts on a pickeral rig at about 8:30 pm.

The lake contains walleye, pike and burbot as far as I know. It says perch in the regs but I did not hear or see of any.

Default Fish in PCR

As regulars there you will catch hundreds of walleye, a few pike and in winter especially many many burbot. We are usually too bagged to go out after dark in summer but I am sure they are there waiting too.
