Default E-Tec question??

Anyone own an E-Tec outboard, specifically a 115. Had an issue with mie on Sat and was wondering if mine was (stress WAS) running normal from day 1 or not....

Just wondering, if it didn't start immediately upon turning the key, does your motor continue to turn over until it catches or does it just stop, turn off the key and a few more little cranks.....mine did this occasionally and since it's only 6 weekd old it's an orginal issue. Finally after driving to South Buck from Edmonton on Sunday after the 5th attempt to turn it over after 4 little cranks the starter totally ate itself...nothing but shrapnel inside. So since this my forst e-tec I wasn't sure if short cranks were normal or if like any other I know, key turned means starter motor turning...

Not sure what you are asking , but mine only cranks when the key is turned. I have never had it crank more than about one revolution. That includes the first start in the spring and starting it after one cylinder was shot.

If it remains cranking after you have stopeed turning the key, I would think your solenoid is sticking. That is most likely why your starter is wrecked. I can't see it lasting if it kept cranking once the motor was running.

hope that helps

Well Sherwood Marine took my boat in on Monday, did a full checkup, rushed a new starter from Seattle and I picked it back up today, ready for the weekend! Hats off to those guys! Best part is they put it all under warrenty. Was maybe expecting a bit of a run around as some shops would do for dissasembling the mechanism myself, but they looked at it from a guy stranded on the lake point of few..no questions asked, just wanted to get back on the water. So I have a new Starter, and a new tank of XD100 for the hassle. Great job guys!
