I'm going to go ahead and guess this has to do with weather and parking? Have you got a couple of vehicles parked on the street?? With all the snow is someone having to walk past their own home to get to there vehicle?

Yeah, I was thinking along those lines. Seems strange, though, for over 3 years it hasn't been a problem. I have two vehicles parked on the street, but our house is the only one on that side of the street. So it's not like the space is needed. No one parks along there when I don't have my vehicles there. And I haven't P'd anyone off that I know of.

But the one vehicle is a fairly ugly cube van (legal to park on the street, I checked) and that's the only variable that has changed over the years. So maybe they're thinking if they get rid of my trailer I'll park it in my driveway (?)...which won't happen.

Default Same Problem

My wife is in a wheel chair so the trailer I purchased for her needed to be gutting out so I could fix it up for her. I had it parked on the street hooked to my Van. The Renos were just about complete (one week) on the street. I noticed on the front of the trailer someone had placed a ticket on it. It read you have 72 hours to move it and I must pay 75.00 for leaving my trailer on the street. I called bylaw and they said as long as the trailer was on my property it was ok. Front or back. But not on the drive way you only have 24 hours to load your RV and then it has to be move. So I cut down the fence on my side yard beside my garage and that is where it stays winter and summer. I'm sure whom ever called us in are up set that I did not move it to an RV storage yard.

There you go just build a 30+ ft garage with a minimum 12 ft door... Easy.

Yup, 38x18 garage with 12ft. walls. I can also park the 8x5 quad trailer in with the quad as well. I plan on adding on another 30x18 off to the one side this year if all goes as planed. Living on a pie shaped lot with a tee'd back alley has it's advantages.

Wow....can't believe my luck. Just got an email from the city by-laws inspector.

Dear Mr ********,

I have looked at your property and found the RV to be in the side yard as defined in Bylaw 1P2007. Your actual Front yard is the section parallel to ******** st , so your RV is fine where it is. I am closing the file, if you have any questions please feel free to contact me.

Have a great day.
So, Mr. Whiny neighbour can KMA. Apparently because of the way my lot is situated (corner lot), the part that has both my front door and my driveway is technically considered the "side yard". The "front yard" is the narrow section of my property around the corner. Just made my day/week/year. WHEW!!

I would for sure laminate it and stick it in every window! But, do this too! I know a guy I went to school with who built a house in a newer community in Calgary. He had his 5th wheel trailer along the side of his corner lot house. Some neighbors complained to bylaw and it was found by bylaw that it was fine. A few weeks later he had the trailer broken into and some stuff stolen and vandalized. He has security cameras now on the trailer and his gate. If you don't put up real cameras, put up the fake ones, so the neighbors are aware you mean business! Just a thought!

Default Awesome

Not often a guy gets those letters from the robo-cops, glad to hear you don't have to move it at an additional expense...

Yeah. That'll be about as much good as showing the Mounties a piece of paper with firearm transportation laws on it. If they want to nab you, they're going to do it regardless. What's to lose for them?

The "village idiots" have a well earned moniker.
