Default Home inspector

My wife and I are building a home and there is a walk through once framing, electrical, and plumbing is done. I am looking for a home inspector to go through the property with us as this is not my area of expertise. Looking for a real particular SOB.

Any recommendations would be appreciated.

Thanks

The average home/building inspector don't know his azz from a hole in the ground.

Pre-drywall? Sounds pretty easy, you could also consider having a few journeymen from various trade disciplines through for a gander, but whether some are capable of writing a legible report is another matter. I could certainly handle the plumbing & gas aspect.

I just used Joel yesterday. Seemed highly knowledgable, took 4 hours to walk us through our first home (built in 92) explained everything and things to watch out for.

Used a thermal cam to look for foundation leaks and wiring hot spots.

This was my first inspection but he seemed really good. Took his time, checked all nook and crannies.

If the inspector is using a thermal imaging (infrared camera) make sure they have certification/training on the device. Any putz can buy one and tell you that they see a problem, but it isn't that easy to use and interpret the image on the device without formal training.

There wouldn't really be much of a use for an infra-red camera at the pre-drywall stage, everything would still visible to the naked eye....

Caber, you would think that to be the case. I just added onto my cabin and the cold weather hit just after I put up the vapour barrier. Surprised to see all the little leaks show up on the vapour barrier as frost. Gave me a chance to fix them little leaks up. So the camera may show if the insulation was not installed properly. But I don't know as I have never operated one.

I used Accu-Home in Calgary and was very impressed. They come highly recommended on the Beyond forum.
