Having such an old model like that, even an iphone 8 would be just fine.

You could find one in perfect working order on kijiji that's unlocked for a few hundred bucks easily. Pop your SIM card into it and away you go.

I pay $110 for a Samsung S10+ with Unlimited data. So you are paying at a minimum $270 more then what you need to be for 3 people

Forgot about that. Quit using Apple 20 years ago because of all their proprietary nonsense. They don't call it Apple Sauce for nothing.

I have previously sort of looked at Koodoo and Public Mobile, just wasn't sure if they'd work well in all the areas a Telus one will, places like Hanna to Youngstown, Sundre to Dreadful Valley, Kootenays, Kamloops to Prince George type zones.

What part of they run on EXACTLY the same network and towers isn't clear. They are both owned by Telus. Reception and coverage is identical.

I just buy lightly used phones off of Kijiji. Often times, asking price is a third of new if they are one generation behind current.

I was thinking about the price of smart phones recently and thought wow these prices are crazy.
Then remembered I bought a computer in 2007 for $1000 and didn’t think much of it. Comparing specs of today’s smart phones, they are more powerful than that computer was in performance and storage.

I just call my service provider (Bell) and ask to speak to the retention department. I told them I've been a customer for 15 years and if they don't give me a spectacular deal, Koodoo will. I got a iphone X last year for $199 and kept my $60/month unlimited everything with 10 gig data plan exactly as it was.

These companies want to keep your business, because even $60/month is highway robbery. Treat them like you'd treat a greasy used car salesman and you'll be surprised how things can work out. If they don't play ball, switch and port your number, no skin off your back.

That's where I went after Bell tried jacking my bill from $35 a month to almost $100 when my contract ended and didn't seem interested in keeping me a happy customer, so after about 15 years I took my phone to Public and now pay $35 and get unlimited Canada wide calling/texting and 5 or 6 gigs of data, I barely use one a month.

The days of paying big bucks for a phone are long gone for me, it's just not worth it. Can't believe what some people are willing to pay.

My phone is an S7 that I payed $100 for off Kijiji almost two years ago and it does more than I'll ever need it to do.

$1000+ for a cell phone is absolutely absurd.
