Thanks Jigger! I haven't fished Crawling before. A buddy lives in rosemary and suggested it. What time were they biting? Where is a decent spot for jacks?

It is hard to say at crawling, sometimes they will bite just in the morining or just in the afternoon but usually the bites are spread out through the day which is a good thing. The lake is fairly big but we fish on the north end, directley across from the cutbanks. Which way are you going out there from?

We've been out hundreds of times but i can honestly say we only fish the north end and usually have pretty good action. We rig up a smelt and fish 6 in. from bottom, we usually spread out the tip ups and see which depth is the best. And the 4 inch single or double tail yellow and orange jigs work good. Good luck guys let me know how u make out! Im gonna try blood indian tommorow see if i can hook into a big trout!

My son and I caught 9 pike at Newell last Sat, plus we missed a number of bites as well. All were in the 3 to 6 lb. range - no big ones. We are headed back tomorrow. It has been a couple of years since I fished CV, as I have found Newell to somewhat more consistant and with bigger fish.
Good fishing!

Sorry for the late update, but we did go out. We fished the east side straight out for the boat launch back in the bay. We were there 20 minutes and my brother caught a 3 lb walleye. Hell of a nice fish, it was a shame to put it back down the hole. Other than that we caught 8 pike, 3 keepers. We were using smelt lines. Lots of ice, over 22 inches. We had to work hard for these, it was rather slow overall. Pretty much 1 fish per hour.
Thanks

Another Newell update for last Sunday (Jan. 6th). 3 of us caught 8 pike with the biggest two going 12.1 and 11.7 lbs. It was an okay day but not great. The bites seemed to come in bunches. One time we had 3 bites within 1 minute, all on different tip-ups. We saw a few white fish on the camera but didn't get any takers. Ice was 13-14". We are headed back this Sunday.

4:15am and I am bright eyed and bushy tailed! Gonna hit a couple spots on Crawling and then maybe to a stocked pond to fish out all the 12-13" perch before the spawn. Hopeless I know.
