Personaly I wouldnt buy a Ranger. Its not that I have any problem with 1/4 ton trucks but the Ranger I owned was actualy worse on fuel than many of the full sized trucks I've owned. I also dont think they hold their value very well. I know alot of other people that own or have owned rangers that will tell you the same thing. I dont see the point in driving a compact truck that doesnt offer a significant advantage in fuel milage.

I had a 96 Ranger XLT with the 4.0L V6 and it got me about 20mpg. Had enough power for the size of truck and even when It came to towing I pulled way more than I should have but when your the only one with a truck and your helping a buddy move, not much you can do about it.
As for buying a new vehicle, I've only met 1 person who can actually make the dealer feel like he's been screwed. My brother in law used to work for Ford so knows all about how to do it. Bought a new Ranger last year, fully loaded XLT 4x4 4.0L and ended up paying a little over 17K. Dealer ended up offering him a job after the sale.
Just make sure when you go to sign the papers don't let them throw in the extended warranty or the life insurance crap. They did this to my Wife when she bought her car after I had got them down to a considerably lower monthly payment. THey make it sound like you HAVE to have it but its just a gimick to get more $$ from you. Good luck and Enjoy the truck. IF I didn't have to have a full size I wouldn't hesitate in buying another Ranger! Great Rigs!
