Default Your best memory from 2010/2011 ice season

With the ice season up north pretty much coming to a close after thursday, what's your most memorable event from this years hardwater season?

Mine was two big lakers, back to back! I had been sick for about 5 weeks straight with a nasty flu, and this was my first trip out when I was feeling better.

I gotta say using the exact same hole 4 weekends in a row out at Wabamun because it was producing so well. A 14 lb jack being the biggest out of it and at least two dozen fish landed from this one hole.

Fighting a 15 lb jack on a medium-light rod with 8lb test line being a close second.

It was a great season.

no question 39 inch thick as hell from Badger doesn't match the 44 in. from clear last year but because this hog was so so thick I bet he out weighted the last years monster

Sitting back in my Lazy Boy during those -30C days reading a great book and imagining those that are out freezing there bu#$ off staring down a hole in the ice. Not that I don't enjoy ice fishing but with the weather the way it was down South I preferred to imagine getting the boat out onto a nice lake and and enjoying the sun and the fishing.

Cheers !!

Dodger.

Mine wasn't any fish that I caught but the day I took my 3 yr old out for the first time. Then later that day myself and my oldest boy went out to finish the day off.

I had two best firsts, My kids caught their first fish all on their own this year, granted we had to do it in Manitoba, it was perfect!
The second was catching my first laker, with the mentorship of teamprotz on cold lake, nothing huge, but my first!
Great year even with the slow fishing we had!
Can't wait till next year!

only went out once this year to cold lake. but im happy i made it out once. got my first laker ever, and i have wanted to catch one for years, so even though it was only a single trip season, big success in my book.

My favorite trip of the year was taking a buddy out for perch and teaching him how to use my flasher. We ended up hole hopping all day and hammering some good perch. We would just take turns at each stop and one guy would end up with a fish out of every hole. The weather was really good that day to.

So should we add you to the ever-increasing list of AO fathers and fathers-to-be?

I had a lot of good times this year. One of my favorite memories was helping a little guy catch what I assume is one of his first fish. We were at Sylvan and a couple sleds pulled up, couple adults each with a young guy (one about 3, the other maybe 2) and started asking about the fishing, but I guessed that they have done little fishing there. Just then I hooked up on my first fish of the day and once I knew I had a good hook set, I handed the rod to the smallest guy. It was just an average white but he could barely crank the reel! He fought it for a good 2-3 minutes and then surrendered. I brought it in the rest of the way and he was super excited to see it on the ice (but wouldn't touch it haha!) Never asked him if he ever fished or anything and as quick as they arrived they took off. Karma must have been on our side after that as we had very little action until then, and after that we couldn't keep them off.

Had a fun season overall, the weather was gross a lot of the time but I did manage to get out a few times and have some good times.

My best moment was pulling this gal through the ice:

My personal best pike, followed a short time later by my lady's 14 plus pounder.

Lots of good companionship on the ice, and lots of fishing.

My most notable day was that day at Wabamun where I had a whole bunch of big pike slam my giant herring all day. It was especially a blast to see the fish doubling over my 7ft 15lb medium action rod with line peeling off of the reel. My fishing partner also landed 3 nice whites and lost a few more and saw a freight train of a pike that looked to be well over 10lbs wrap his line around the camera and get off.

Overall, it was a blast that day.

Default Rainbow

My best memory was in December when I landed an 8.3lb Rainbow. It was a slow morning but out of no where came this nice gentleman and chomp. My jig was gone and I started screaming like a little kid.

My other fond memory was joining this forum in the fall and meeting some awesome people and their families. w_worbeck, Garry B, Horsetrader and RayB's. I did alot of fishing with these guys and have formed new friendships that won't be soon forgotten.

Well my best memory was ice fishing with my daughter this winter at wab. Pulled out 2 master anglers with her there, and caught a 4lb pike on her DORA rod. lol. My 2nd was actually caught 2 hours ago from wab, pushing almost 42 inch for a personal best fish out of wab, and great way to end the ice season.
