I’m scratching my head
Deep in the heart of Ministik this morning I found a cow moose, shot and left. Days old. That’s bad enough, but the kicker is that I can’t even figure out what went down, based on what I saw of the crime scene. Quad tracks going right to the carcass. A saw cut through the spine ahead of the pelvis. Nothing recovered or removed otherwise. Why make an effort to locate, cut up and extract the carcass, only to leave it? I just don’t get it.
I understand there are some $&*#heads out there, and have witnessed their antics first hand at times, but this one defies my reckoning. And I have a decent imagination. Theories?

Is there an open season for cow moose right now in that area?
Perhaps the purp intended to take some of the meat and then got cold feet or was scared off when someone else was in the area?

Man what a shame. Could have been that they didn't find the moose right away and by the time they cut into it realized it had turned. That or they were poaching and were worried about being discovered out there

Weird that they would use a saw. If they were just going to slash and grab some hunks of meat they would have used knives and slipped away with pack sacks full of choice cuts?
I don’t understand the wasting of animals!

Brutal. Maybe a connection to the other thread about the cut in the fence and quad tracks?

Playing devils advocate but could it have been a day old? Gutted? Maybe they were coming back with better tools for the job and help. Or poacher

Good chance it's the guys that cut the fence as well, hopefully fish and game is on it or someone here knows the truck/trailer and can punch the people in the face numerous times...

Was it all chewed up by coyotes. It’s November. Meat is probably still good to recover it. Not a waste at that point!

Maybe it was from the Domestic dogs in the other thread?

Yes, reported. The carcass had been scavenged by dogs and birds.

I saw a dog carrying a meat saw in his mouth just the other day.
