Was driving into Lethbridge about 15 min after the crash...."what's with all the traffic, didn't know the show started today, wow, look at all the cop cars and fire trucks, hey, look at all the smoke out in the field, holy crap, I wonder if a plane crashed, yup, looks like the burned tail of a fighter"...

Glad to hear the pilot made it out okay. I have crashed a company car before and felt bad, can't imagine the pucker factor when you crash a $20 million dollar plane!

Hopefully the air show will go on, it's the first year I have bought tickets.

For anyone who doesn't know it was a CF-18 that crashed.

bunch of buddies watched it go down, as they were working right there. they said it was very surprising that the pilot made it out virtually unscathed.

I've allways wondered what goes through a pilot's mind, when that moment comes ? Should I eject, or hang in there? God, I hope they're not gonna make me pay for this thing.

I think we already paid for it. Its the F-35 Lightning that we are now going buy.

The F-18's are getting old, and it is indeed a time for an update.

The liberals want to cancel that program as well.

Iggy and Taliban Jack want to cancel the purchase for the new jets, saying that it is unnecessary. Open mouth, Insert foot! Vote smart, vote CONSERVATIVE!. At the very least, they support the Military!

If Iggy had been in Canada more than the last 2 years, he'd know this whole process was started under the Liberal dictatorship..but alas, anything at all to score some points....and I vote for Jack being appointed Ambassador to the Antartica...both a waste of good air

The air show is still a go. Pilot was taken to the hospital with some injuries from hitting the ground pretty hard but will be ok.

At least he was cool headed enough to make the decision to eject. Once stall speed is achieved at that low altitude, the only direction that machine is going is down. Thankfully, our pilots are well trained and when compared with many other modren air forces...our pilots get to spend a fair amount of time in the air.

Lucky it went as well, as it did. Sounds like there were a lot of people around.

Kudos to the pilot. He 'Pulled the 'Chute' once he knew the aircraft was in a safe zone, and did it at a very low altitude putting his own life at risk to protect the general public. I wish him not only a speedy recovery, but a medal for bravery! Many lives could have been lost today, and NONE were.

Better angle, better video quality. I just find it very ironic that the music in the background is "stayin alive"

The crash is not going to look good on his record, but unless he was at fault in some major way, he will be fine.
Getting ejected out of a plane is like being in a car crash. I used to leave near a military airport and heard some stories....

That maneuver he was trying is better suited for SU35s. Would lieberals want us to get 65 of those puppies???

I'm clad the Captain is fine and out of danger.

I've seen them do that exact maneuver with no problems at all. Probably that exact plane. I'm bettin' something in the plane screwed up. Thank God the pilot is safe and no one else was hurt.

Jets are very unforgiving at low speeds because they depend totally on speed to produce lift..not like a prop that washes air over the wings to supplement lift... I'm betting there will be a review of all low speed manuvers to determine if they are worth the risk. I remember about 20 yrs ago when there were a couple of bad Herc crashes while doing LAPES (Low altitude parachute extractions)...That practice was discontinued.

When I was a kid, I watched one of the Golden Hawks, predecessor of the Snowbirds, plow into the ground on approach at the Calgary airport, after colliding with a light plane. The F 86 sliced the wing off a Piper Tripacer and went straight into the ground. The other plane just windmilled down. They both ended up where Deerfoot now runs past the west runway. I think there were 4 people killed between the two planes.

Media keeps calling it a Crash Landing. I'm sure there'll be a few people making bucks, off their pictures. There is one video sequence, where the plane appears to be pancaking right towards the photographer and you see the ejection seat rocketing the pilot away.
